@Mrs. Lion: I stopped CF when I got a new job in a neighboring city. I have some herniated discs in my back that are flaring up, too, so I'm not sure I'll be able to go back until my pregnancy is over. All the full body stuff may just aggravate it too much. It's not bothering me when I do more isolated work outs at Gold's, though. Shoulders/arms/triceps one day, back/biceps another, and legs/calves a third. Then just chasing E around and going for walks

@blackbird: Are you still going to crossfit? I am noticing that even when I go for a long hilly walk i have round ligament pain and I get nervous. I am going to try to start swimming this week I think. I think I may have taken too long off (I am 24 weeks now and haven't done any strength training at all other than my PT exercises, which hardly count).

@Mrs. Lion: That's what i'm hoping! I also did legs on Sunday and my calves are STILL on fire. My goal is just to maintain as much strength and muscle as I can this time around.

@blackbird: I haven't done any arms stuff since I quit the jillian michaels videos when I found out I was pregnant. I tried to tricep dips and push ups yesterday and I was so sad at how much strength I have lost. But it will come back!

@meredithNYC: I used to be able to knock out a ton of push ups in crossfit. I am down to....5. I can do 5 in a row. Then i do 5 on my knees. Then i take a long break. Then i repeat two more times. It makes me sad :(

@ScarletBegonia: Holy crap, that's amazing! Were you able to get in shape quickly after birth since you had been so active during pregnancy?

@ms. pug: You look fantastic! And I agree about the early (and COLD) mornings. Sometimes it's so painful, but I have found that I never regret getting up and just going it - whereas I always regret not doing it.

@blackbird: Hope you regain some strength! After 2.5 months off, going back to barre it was the push-ups that killed me most. I'm still doing them on my knees and probably will be for the duration of the pregnancy.

@ms. pug: You can't tell at all (meanwhile I'm super obv pregnant at 14 weeks). I LOVE the skirt on your dress and the way it wraps around. it's phenomenal.

Anyways. I took a break for about a month b/c i felt shitty, my disc was flaring up, and exercise made me feel worse. I'm easing back in with 3x/week, though, and it feels good again. My strength took a huge hit, but it is what it is :)

@meredithNYC: Hi! Sorry- just saw this! The wedding was awesome- I was 14 weeks and you couldn't tell in my dress (even though it was a dropped waist), though I felt really bloated. I attached 2 pictures so you can see! I'm now 23 weeks and still exercising, although not as often with growing fatigue. Not to mention- it is HARD to get out of bed super early when it is pitch black outside and 30 degrees out!

I did reformer pilates 4X/week until 40+5. I think i dropped a few classes between weeks 8 and 12 because of tiredness and lethargy, but after 12 weeks I couldn't manage without it, my muscles would get so tight and crampy if I didn't stretch out. Now if only I had the time to spare again!!

Last time I got injured really badly - I tried to keep up with Zumba classes, and ended up with SPD and hips that weren't properly in the socket.

If this pregnancy is sticky, I'm really going to try to stick with lifting weights and doing light cardio.

I exercised until 15 weeks or so, but I was really lucky and did not have any morning sickness or even fatigue, believe it or not. Once I hit 15 weeks I started to get tired and my blood pressure started to rise, so I laid off the exercising. I had been doing the 30DS.

With my first pregnancy, I did not exercise at all.

Im pretty sure i will be paying for that tomorrow though haha :) i found a water fitness class, a cycling class, and a yoga class that i am going to try this week. Gotta get some more use out of this gym membership!

Welp, first trimester did NOT go well for me, lol. In fact, I am 15 weeks now and just managed to drop the Diclegis prescription 2 days ago. Hooray! Signed up for an early morning barre class tomorrow and I'm thrilled, but also terrified because it is going to kick me in the ass hard.

I am in the last week of my first tri and have consistently exercised (not always strenuously, sometimes just yoga or walking for 30 min) 6 days a week since finding out I was pregnant. I had no MS or nausea really, though. I find it really energizes me!

@autumnlove: This is me, exactly! I was a very dedicated exerciser before pregnancy so I tried to keep it up with modifications to stay safe. Not to thread jack, but any tips for getting married at 13 weeks? Did people know at that point? I'll be 13w6d when I get married NEXT WEEK (ah!!!! :) ) Thanks in advance! Feel free to wall me!!!

I did but only for vanity reasons because I got married at 13 weeks during my first pregnancy. :P I felt sick a lot but I managed to work out late at night (after my horrible afternoon nausea)....not as easy if you already have a toddler!

I did walk a lot for pregnancy 2 but I had an early diagnosis of GD and exercise was really encouraged by my nurses and doctors.

@macintosh: Yeah, it bugs me because I know how easy it is to get out of the routine and while things get better in terms of nausea/exhaustion, I will only get bigger as time goes on! Which is tough in and of itself.

Nope - due to a miscarriage only 2 cycles before, i was irrationally paranoid, plus i felt ridiculously tired and nauseous. Right before that I had been waking up at 445am to work out every morning before work, annnnnd i haven't seen the inside of a gym since the week i found out i was pregnant, back in December lol

Sorry, but no. I tried to continue my workouts after I found out, but they were a little on the dangerous/strenuous side, so after going once at like, 4.5 weeks and just feeling like I shouldn't chance it, I didn't go back. Last week I started going to prenatal yoga (I was 15 weeks), and I'm going to try to continue once a week, though I'm still not completely over the nausea and still exhausted. I'm hoping it'll help with my energy level!

I definitely couldn't. I was throwing up so much and so constantly nauseous that it was all I could do to get through the work day. Exercise made me feel worse, not better, so I bailed for a long while. I had a few good weeks of working around in the 20-30 week period and lots and lots of walking at the end. I never really managed to get into a good workout routine, but I was also sick for a long while. I think you have to do what makes you feel best, which for some people is pushing through a workout and for others is ....more like nothing.

Ummm that would be a big no! I was pretty surprised at how drained I've been so the first 4 weeks I let myself sleep in as late as possible and go to bed right after dinner. At 8 weeks I started forcing a walk after dinner and noticed I was sleeping better and therefore feeling better. On vacation last week we walked for hours every day and felt pretty good, so I'm going to try to keep walking every night after dinner

@meredithNYC: Oh boy, this has been bugging me lately. I haven't worked out in weeks due to my IVF cycle. Before retrieval I was feeling too tired and bloated. After my transfer I wasn't allowed to exercise. I normally do pilates and yoga once a week each.

Now I'm feeling majorly self conscious about my bloated belly and what I'm guessing is a few extra pounds from the hormones. (and lack of exercise). I can't wait to get back to my classes but like you, I fear getting sick. I also have massive reflux happening already.

I agree they it might be good to freeze your membership for now and listen to what your body is telling you. Maybe try prenatal yoga! I want to start walking too :)

i'm 8w2d and i can't imagine a universe where exercise is possible. i am gassed walking up a flight of stairs. i am CONSTANTLY on the verge of puking and actually puke a lot, as well. i had high hopes for a super healthy pregnancy but this first trimester is murdering me. even going for walks is torture. (i'm so dramatic haha) soooo i plan on being gentle on myself (letting go of guilt) and getting back on the horse in 2nd tri. we are getting an elliptical and i'm signing up for prenatal yoga so i hope those will be easy transitions back into a workout routine.

I did!! I told the instructor in the class that I took each week. He would give me modifications when needed or would understand if I slowed down. Worked out 3-4 times a week my whole pregnancy. I had my gym bag packed for the next day after work when my water broke. By then I was just doing weights and walking the treadmill or elliptical.
