Thank you everyone for your input! You've all given me some hope especially since we have put him to sleep awake but sleepy and he has fallen asleep on his own!

My daughter has always been a good sleeper. She woke up 2 times during the night for the first 4 weeks. After that she STTN. She STTN from 1 month to 8 months. Just this month she would wake up 1-2 times during the night for a quick feed. The last week she's sttn for 5/7 nights so I feel like we're getting back on track. Some babies are just naturally good sleepers. Like a PP, I always make a quick exit. I give my cuddles or whatever before she is in her room. Once she is in her room, I put her in her crib quickly, give a quick kiss and get the heck out of there. Usually works nicely.

No sleep training here and LO is almost 16 months. She officially STTN on her own at 5 months, but she's always had long stretches since she was born. We've had hiccups along the way and bad nights with frequent wakings, but we always just rode it out and she has so far, without fail, always gone back to STTN.

Similar to @Mrs. Twine: we never really did any sleep training. He still doesn't take regular naps, but he sleeps through the night, which started around 6 1/2 months with a few hiccups in between.

Never sleep trained really. J was sleeping 7 hours straight by about 5 weeks old, then 11 hours or so within just a few months. Even while sick, teething, he's hardly every woken up in the last 19 months. He just goes right to sleep and sleeps through the night great. We are lucky, I guess! But we always made sure to put him down awake, but drowsy, then made a quick exit out the door or else he'd start crying. Still to this day, we make a quick exit out the door. He goes right to sleep.

We never sleep trained. Xander was just always a good sleeper and started STTN at 11 weeks.

The 4 month regression to us just looked like him waking up a little bit earlier than normal and needing some help falling back to sleep, but it didn't last very long before he was back to sleep like a champ.

we never sleep trained. LO slept through the night at 8 weeks by herself and she's 27 months now. we never had big regressions - just periods with some wakeups or tough bedtimes but they always passed and were probably related to teeth or something. some kids are just good sleepers!

L STTN all on her own from 10 weeks to 6 months. I *think* that was our fault, because we took 3 intense vacations in a one-month span that completely screwed with her sleep. We didn't get back to STTN until 13 or 14 months when we decided to sleep train (and that even only took 1 night)

I'm hoping we can work on teaching him self soothing with drowsy but awake and not have to sleep train. We'll do it if we have to since mama needs her sleep, but our bedrooms are connected so if he's screaming for a long period of time it's going to be really hard on all of us. I also feel like it's our responsibility to exhaust all other avenues first (drowsy but awake, lessening night feeds, etc), especially since his sleep isn't that bad.

My LO started sleeping through the night at four weeks! she was an amazing sleeper until she hit the 4 month regression, which we're still in. So the past few weeks she's been waking 1-3 times a night (though usually after at least a 7 hr stretch, so still technically STTN). We haven't sleep trained and are hoping we won't need to...stay tuned! ;)

We didn't sleep train. We got lucky with a really good sleeper. He started STTN at around 5 weeks. Even with a few regressions (9 months was the worst, as I recall, but he was also sick at that time), he still was mostly able to self-soothe back to sleep.

We didn't sleep train, other than establish a bedtime routine. DS didn't STTN until we were done breastfeeding. I work 40+ hours out of the home and figured he needed the night feed/comfort.

We didn't sleep train, although I think LO sleep-trained us as I rocked her to sleep until like 19 months old!! She has had some days/weeks of bad sleep, which mostly came from teething or being sick, not age "regressions". She's STTN pretty much since before 12 weeks.

@Greentea: I feel the same.

We didn't sleep train. DS STTN at around 4 months then stopped at 7 months. So he started sleeping with us and STTN again. But he fights sleep and we've had nights where he's up for hours! To me baby sleep is so fluid - it changes all the time! He's 19 months now.

I have heard of people naturally having good sleepers with no sleep training. I call those magic babies.

Same as previous posters - we had 10-12 uninterrupted hours of sleep from 11-16 weeks, then vacation combined with 4 month regression destroyed it. At 6 months we did some gentle sleep training (try to rock back to sleep rather than nurse back to sleep, allow 5 min of crying if not hysterical before intervening...) and we ended up with 1-2 wakeups most nights from 6-9 months. 9 month regression is now killing me so I think we'll possibly sleep train soon.

We never sleep trained. DD skipped the four month regression but had a rough couple months with the six month regression. She crawled, cruised and got six teeth in that time. We've been really lucky with her sleep.

Yes. LO 1 started at eight weeks and never really regressed except for a few days when she started standing in her crib and when she is really congested/sick.

LO 2 had no issues STTN between 8 weeks until 10.5 months. Then she started waking up once a night a few times a week....this lasted for a couple of weeks but she is back on track for now!

We didn't sleep train - she was an amazing sleeper until 4 months when she got sick/ went through the 4 month regression. For like 6 weeks, it was a nightmare. Then once we got closer to 6 months, she went back to 1 - 2 wakeups a night, which I'm ok with, and she learned to fall asleep on her own.

DS is 11 weeks old and started sleeping through the night last week. We are thrilled but getting a little nervous about the 4 month sleep regression or other sleep issues coming up. Did anyone out there not have to do any sleep training at all and your LO continued to sleep through the night? Or is this just wishful thinking that we won't have to?
