@Ree723: :silly: bahaha! That made me laugh. I think a lot if beautiful names are pretty difficult for the LOs to pronounce.

@Cole: DH and I had played the name game for years and we both just had entirely different tastes in names. Ultimately, DD's name was his suggestion and one I could "go with." I never felt a true conviction for any name like it HAD to be one, so a compromise felt fair. He always wanted the middle name to be after his parents, and while I really didn't like his mother's name, put together with the first name, it flowed really well. I had doubts throughout the whole pregnancy and considered changing when we met her, but he had announce the name choice to everyone at 12 weeks. By the time she arrived it was as if all our loved ones already "knew" and loved her - there was no changing and it made me love her name even more.

For DD1, we both loved her name from the time we first decided on it, at about six weeks pregnant! With DD2, we battled for ages - he loved Charlotte and didn't want to consider anything else, I was exactly the same about Olivia. Charlotte won in the end as I liked it, but didn't love it, whereas DH felt quite strongly in his dislike for the O name.

Seven months on, I am happy with the name Charlotte but do still occasionally wish we'd gone with Olivia.....especially as DD1 always pronounces her name as 'shart'. Awesome :silly:

Yeah, I never LOVED either of our kids' names. DS's name basically means "dark" and "black," but whatever. For DD, I probably would have gone with something a little different if it was totally up to me. I dreamed that we named her Ella right before I gave birth, and I still wish that's what we'd gone with! But honestly, they will "become" their names eventually. I can't imagine either of them with a different name. It'll be okay!!

I have some issues with both their names. One of the meanings of DS1's name is essentially "the black Lord" and the top Google result for DS2's name is a terrorist. Whatever! :)

We struggled to name LO before she was born because nothing seemed just perfect and I thought I should feel like it was just perfect because otherwise it obviously wasn't the right one!

I won't stress over it next time, because I realised that I have only grown to love her name as she has grown and it fits her perfectly because that is all I have known her as.

I don't think I was ever head-over-heels for LO's name before we had her. We got down to two favorites (but I just really liked them, neither was like OMG PERFECT) and I actually favored the other name probably 60/40... but my husband had developed a huge preference for this name. Ultimately he left it up to me but since my preference for the other was slight, and his preference for this name was great, we went with this name. And now she's here and I love it. :)

I did not care for my daughter's name, pretty much my entire pregnancy. It grew on me towards the end though. But it was very meaningful and important to DH, it's a family name, and I wanted to honor/respect that. Now, I love LO's name and can't imagine her being anything else!

WE can agree on boy names, we have similar style for them, but for some reason girl names are impossible for us. I have a favorite which is about the only name I love, and DH is just meh about it, but sometimes I wonder if it's because I picked DD1 name and he's wanting more input? I don't I get the feeling he likes it, but doesn't like I came up with it all on my own ;)

At first I wasn't in love with our LOs middle name. It's a family name on DH's side. But it just sounds right now and I'm so glad we picked the one with significance over the random one I liked with no significance.

I also love the significance, she is named after my grandma. Her nickname is way to popular for my liking, but I wouldn't change it. She will always know how special her name is and how special her great grandma was.

When LO was born and I finally had to say his name out loud, I wondered if we had made a mistake. It sounded like someone else's name to me! But over time it started to sound perfect and now we just can't imagine him being named anything else. When your LO is here you may find yourself feeling the same!

@skipra: That doesn't seem irrational to me! One reason I prefer one name over the other is that my dh wants to use an honor name from his side for the middle if we pick the name we merely like the sound of. Our other name is both of our grandmother's names with his being in the middle. His rational is that we could still use my grandmother's name as a first for another baby but I still feel funny about it. Especially because had the baby been a boy he would have been named after my dad, so it feels funny to go from naming a bit after my dad to naming a girl after no one and using a name from his side for the middle.

We are still early on in my pregnancy so we haven't given names any serious thought but I totally can see this happening to me. All the names I have really loved that I've casually mentioned to my husband he has HATED. So I feel like if we even decide on 1 name we both sorta like it will be a miracle.

Yes, with both my boys I have wished we picked different names! But they are meaningful names to us and I have no regrets about DS1's name now so I am sure I will feel the same way about DS2 as he grows into his name. Already with DS2 I couldn't imagine him having a ddifferent name which was the hard thing for me with DS1 (DH picked his name and it was a family name on his side so I was a little sad that his family got first and last names for my baby...totally irrational I guess)

Thanks everyone! I have mostly made my peace with the situation but it is nice to know other people fell more in love after baby arrived.

@QueensBee: I think I am leaning towards the meaningful of the two names for the reasons you mentioned. It's nice to know someone else has been there too.

We named our LO after his two grandfathers and while I liked the full name, I wasn't head over heels in love with it. However, I absolutely adore it now that I see LO interacting with both grandpas and I know what an honor it was for them. The significance of the name in our family makes my heart swell and I now know we chose the perfect name.

So, my personal experience would lead me to advise that you should choose the name that holds significance. Even if you don't love it at this minute, you may adore it more than you ever could imagine!

Yep I have never been in love with DD's name, but it was the only one we agreed on. It was DH'd fav and I think its ok. I gave him no choice when picking the middle name though. He hates all my name picks, I like older classic names. And I dont care for the ones he likes, mostly really popular names.

We are getting close to the end of my pregnancy and baby girl still doesn't have a name. We have two top contenders but neither strikes me as being the most perfect name in the universe or any other romantic notion. One we like the sound of but is super uncommon and the other I like the name but mostly love the significance.

I always thought I would just be head over heels for a baby name but compromising with my husband has made it hard. He has vetoed all of my super favorites so I am left with names that will suffice. Did anyone else run into that? Did your feelings change at some point?
