I'm not struggling but I've just found out that I'm pregnant. I'll definitely miss my glasses of sparkling wine though. We struggled with TTC and so I had curbed alcohol intake already.

I really haven't missed drinking that much because I just haven't been craving it. I would have loved a glass of wine at Thanksgiving or a beer when I was at our friends' house the other day. Other than that, I'm doing OK. I do still love the smell of it, though!! On a good note - I'm not spending any money on booze! Score!

edit to add... It looks like I said I drank rum and coke "every once in a while" while knocked up. That wasn't the case. I was trying to say I just like a little R+C every now and then post baby.

But not even, because I'm still nursing my 15 month old, because he does not like whole milk.

@MamaLove: It does get boring really fast. Most of the time people are pretty considerate of the fact that I'm not drinking and offer me more water or soda. But like you said, there's only so much of that I can take.

I only have (hopefully) 7 more weeks, so I'm wishing you the best at getting through the rest of your pregnancy :-)

I don't miss it too much, but could go for a margarita with salt if I think about it too much! LOL! Perhaps I'll break out the blender and make a virgin margarita.

The one thing I do miss is the social aspect of drinking... we haven't told any of our friends, so when we go out, I fake drink or don't drink. I never drank a TON before (1-3 glasses when we went out, depending on whether I was driving.). Now I get bored after about an hour out! I'm not drinking at ALL so there are only so many waters or sprites I can take! LOL! It's odd, because drinking doesn't necessarily make things fun for me. I always had a good time (before getting pregnant) when I didn't drink. Now I'm just bored!

I miss wine soooooo much! DH and I love cracking open a bottle of red with dinner once or twice per week and it's been killing me that I can't have any. Once I'm out of my first trimester though (two more weeks!), I will be partaking in the occasional glass of red - not as frequently as I did before getting pregnant, but on occasion. It's been endorsed by my doctor so I'm not worried.

I'm not much of a drinker... which surprises everyone! Not sure why. They are even shocked when I tell them I don't drink coffee or tea. Big deal, it's a personal choice, I just don't like the stuff!
The only liquor I would have once in a while is rum and coke... that's it. Not into wine either... blech!

I'm only on my first cycle of TTC, and I ALREADY miss wine! Normally, we share about a bottle a week, as I use wine in a lot of recipes. Making red wine salmon with cooking wine makes me sad.

Amen sister! I desperately miss my glass of wine with dinner in the evenings. I about tackled a girl over her margarita this past weekend too. I really miss margaritas, but can't justify tequila like a little bit of wine.

Once or twice a week I'll pour myself half a glass with dinner (I love the mini bottles of wine so I don't waste a whole bottle), but rarely want more than a couple of sips, and end up dumping most down the sink anyway. When heartburn was bad that helped a lot because I knew wine would make it worse, now that it is under control its harder not to live normally.

We have had 4 weddings over the past couple of months, I've had a glass of wine at each one, but I hate feeling judged by other people watching. It wasn't an issue when our parents were having us, and we turned out just fine. Sorry, I'm feeling whiny right now.

Not really. Beer tasted gross to me, I usually like hops but the bitterness really got to me so all it took was a sip of my husband's beer to remind me that it was not appetizing. I would sometimes sip from his wine glass because wine didn't taste bad to me but after a few sips I wouldn't feel like I wanted to have anymore and not because I thought it was wrong to have half a glass of wine on occasion but it just felt like enough for some reason. So I don't know if it was because I didn't have hard rules that I didn't miss it too much or what.

I'm not pregnant yet, however this is something I think about. We aren't by any means alcoholics, but alcohol does play a pretty significant part in our/my socializing. Dinner with friends, drinks at a new bar, concerts, family gatherings all center around alcohol. I have a feeling when the time comes for me to give it up I will struggle with it, however I will know the end result is way better than 9 months of no drinking.

I want a glass of champagne so badly it's almost killing me! I used to always have a glass of champagne when DH and I would go out for dinner. I felt bad for feeling like this, but I'm glad I'm not alone. I watch trash tv at night, anything that starts with The Real Housewives..., and they're always drinking champagne and I miss it so much.

I drink things that are "close" to alcoholic drinks. Instead of cran-vodka, I will drink cranberry and soda. Or I will have hot chocolate with peppermint, instead of hot chocolate and schnapps. Not the same, no, but a good alternative :)

I really miss wine too. I haven't had any since the end of 2009, when we first got pregnant. Then I pumped for nine months. And now I'm pregnant again. I mostly miss my wine when we go out to eat. But I also miss going to the special wine dinners my husband has at work.

It didn't bother me - the idea of alcohol pretty much made me want to barf. I was a cheap date at dinner :)
However, if I were pregnant again and alcohol seemed appealing, I wouldn't hesitate to have the occasional glass. I know everyone's comfort level with that is different, but it wouldn't bother me.

I struggle too! It doesn't help that my DH is a wine/beer/liquor salesman and so we have roughly 11-12 cases of wine in our house right now....

To curb my craving I had some Ariel wine, which is dealcoholized wine (http://www.arielvineyards.com/wines.html). They make it using the same process as wine and then they put it through another process that takes out 99.5% of the alcohol. I tried the Blanc and it was way to sweet for me. But the sparkling wine is absolutely delicious.

I've also tried a non-alcoholic beer by Erdinger, it was really good! It tasted like a real beer but with no alcohol (well less than 0.5%).

At about 10 weeks I was flippant about drinking a glass of wine on my Husband's b-day. We had a huge fight about it, and I just had a few sips of his wine. From about month 4 to 8 I wasn't interested in alcohol at all. BUT about 2 weeks ago I had a sip of beer and it was heaven. I had a bunch of sips on T-day, including a 1/4 cup of bubbly. Being so close to my due date- I just can't wait. You better believe that I already have a bottle of bubbly in the fridge waiting for NYE!! Can't wait.
