@oliviaoblivia: Wow! Good for you! I don't think I could do it myself. The only reason I'm considering this is because my husband will drive. I may drive if I feel like it, but I want the option to sit in the passenger seat and snooze :-)

@looch: I typically don't mind the car or road trips. As long as I have good music and snacks :-) I've made this particular trip many times. Good tip about the compression stockings. My doc also recommended those for flights over 5 hours (which I have a couple of this summer).

At 27 weeks, we drove down to OBX for a wedding. It was about 9-10 hours. I drive the first 2 hits and my feet BLEW.UP. So my husband did the rest of the driving so that I could put my feet up.

I did a ten hour road trip at 30 weeks by myself. It was totally fine. Didn't need to stop very much either.

I did a 4.5h trip at 29/30w and it was def. on the verge of being very uncomfortable. I was still fine going there at 27w (it was XMas). But baby was so high it really hurt my ribs on the way back. Every pothole and bump on the road was just plain awful.

Do you like to be in the car, because I hate it! No matter what the situation, if it's more than three hours, I need an overnight break!

I had really bad restless leg syndrome starting at about 7 months, so, I'd recommend compression stockings, sounds like overkill, but if you're sitting for a long time, even if you're not flying, they may help you!

Thanks for all of the advice! It sounds like generally I'll be OK if I make frequent stops to walk around and use the restroom, drink lots of water and make the husband drive :-)

We drove from NY to Pittsburgh - about 7 hr., when I was about 7 months. It wasn't bad - we stopped a few times to walk, use the bathroom, get some food, etc. I thought I'd be uncomfortable but I really felt fine.

I did a 3 hour road trip at 28 weeks and it wasn't bad. I even drove home. Our trip included A LOT of walking which was hard but the car rides were no biggie.

@SweetiePie: I think it's hard to know! I am a short person with not much room to go but out, so I was very uncomfortable sitting even for an hour starting at about 30 weeks. We had a couple of short road trips - around 2 hours a piece, and I was changing positions a lot, stopping and walking etc. At that point I didn't even want to do the 2 hour trips! But another of my friends who is taller and longer torsoed than me was totally fine!

I did a 6 hr road trip at 29 weeks. It was totally fine. I was comfortable and we just had to stop a lot to pee. The only word of advice I have is to hydrate! I forgot to drink water and had some bad Braxton Hicks on the way.

I just took an 8 hour trip at 22 weeks and I'll do another one at 28 weeks, the first one wasn't too bad, hoping it doesn't get too much worse! But definitely lots of stops!

I think it's really hard to tell how you'll feel at any given point. I was more uncomfortable at 26-27 weeks than I am now at 35, just because of how LO was sitting at that point. I feel like right now an 8 hour car trip would not be super fun (not that it would EVER be super fun lol) but if I could be the passenger and put my seat back a bit to stretch out I think I'd make it without incident.

We took a 4/5 hour trip when I was 34 weeks; it was a rough. I was pretty uncomfortable by that point and my sciatica didn't like that I had to sit so much. I might do it again, but would stop a lot more frequently.

I didn't go as far as you did but at 33 weeks went on vacation about 4.5 hours away. We did have to stop a couple times for me to pee and stretch but it wasn't too bad. Just make sure to bring pillows for the car.

I traveled 8 hours when I was pregnant with Chloe. I was 27 week on the way down & 28 on the way back. My shower was a week later, at 29 weeks.

It was a little uncomfortable but we took frequent stops and I made sure to walk around.

There was another thread about when your shower was. I've been tentatively thinking mine would be around 29 weeks because I'll have to drive 8 hours to and from over a long weekend (it's in my hometown). If I was at 32 weeks or 33 weeks instead of 29, does that make a big difference? Will I be uncomfortable in a car for 8 hours no matter what at that point?
