i am the same situation! i pump an extra bottle every morning, but when we use a bottle, i also pump to compensate for that time of day,...so my stash is just growing and we live in a small apartment and will run out soon! I don't think i will donate because i would rather just cut out the morning pump session and start using up what i have before i give it away. Also, my friends gave me the idea that when L starts eating solids, I can mix some food with milk instead of water. something like that, so i figure i will use it then.

Yes, yes, please donate! I had to supplement with my oldest in addition to the BM and if I could have afforded donor BM or knew someone I trusted who had extra I would have jumped for joy. You will be giving someone a tremendous gift!

@SleepyMonkey: oh no! Poor kid! If they need anyone to talk to send them my way. I would be happy to share our experience. I need to update the blog, just haven't had time recently lol. Thanks I hope so too!! Our pedi encouraged us to also switch to this GI along with his allergist so we shall see.

@SleepyMonkey: oh thanks for asking! It was a total bust! He spent less than 5 min with us and talked over me every time I opened my mouth to speak. I barely got a chance to say DS has been having a hoarse voice, choking/coughing while eating out. He is keeping him on a very high dose of medication for at least 3 weeks at which point we have to call and let him know how he is doing. I will give him the benefit of the doubt this time. He was definitely preoccupied with something else (first thing out of his mouth was "I may have to step out of the room" and he kept checking his phone). It was snowing that day and my mom thinks he wrecked his new car hahah!!

@SleepyMonkey: The two groups mentioned above do not require the paperwork, blood tests, and freezing conditions to be verified. They are based on the honor system from one mom to another. I had initially looked into donating at a milk bank also, but was afraid I didn't meet all the guidelines and the thought of tossing all my milk made me ill! I also didn't want to just give my milk away, but wanted to make sure it went to a baby in need or someone a felt a connection with. I ende up asking potential recipients a series of questions. The women I ended up donating to asked me a bunch of questions in return and said she really appreciated the fact that I wanted to know their reasons's for getting donor milk. They were adopting a newborn and she was trying to induce lactation without success. She struggled with infertility and providing breastmilk was very important to her both emotionally and for the nutritional benefits for her daughter. I saw a lot of myself in their story and lifestyle and it was an instant fit.

oh great, i didn't know about the local groups. i will take a look. the options i found for donating require you to fill out forms and get notes from your doc and the pedi, and it had all these guidelines to follow that i am sure i didn't (e.g. freeze within 12 hours of expressing).

thanks!!

Donate it! I had to donate a large quantity because it was expressed while I was eating foods LO is allergic to. I met a local mom from my local Human Milk for Human Babies Facebook group. You can also try your local Eats on Feets Facebook group. We actually became friends and share similar parenting views so that was really neat.

If you are worried about how you may have frozen some of the milk just be honest with the mama's and let them decide if they want it. A lot of those women are in desperate need for breastmilk due to medical reasons for their LO's and are grateful for anything and any amount they can get.

I'm donating some from before we knew LO didn't prefer dairy through human milk for human babies. Thy had a local Facebook page! It would definitely pain me to pitch it so I hear ya.

I've been building a freezer stash since early December and haven't use a drop of it, and continue to add to it. I have no space in my freezer anymore...and my mom told me to throw it away because i'd never use it and i need to make room for adult food! i live in an apartment, so i can't buy another freezer...

i was thinking about donating...but i don't know if i've been extra careful with storing the milk. i know i froze some after it had been sitting in the fridge for a couple days.

i promise this isn't a veiled brag attempt...i am stressed out about throwing it away, but also stressed out about running out of room in my freezer. yesterday i wanted to shop for meat to make later in the week and stood there in the grocery store wondering if i had room in the freezer for it. turns out i don't. any advice?
