Yep! Mine estimated that he would be between 6-7 lbs. At birth, he was 7 lbs 6 oz. I think it's pretty amazing how they can estimate the weight by a little prodding. I also had an OB adjust my baby in utero to get a good heartbeat check. I was always amused by it when they did it.

If they're experienced at palpating, it's a MUCH more accurate prediction than a late-term ultrasound. I know of many home birth midwives who can guess within an ounce or two. I've never asked for a guess simply because I didn't really care, lol, I knew I'd be able to push 'em out anyways.

Yes, she estimated a baby around 7 lbs, and we had an 8 lbs 10 oz baby. She still to this day jokes about not knowing where she was hiding how big she was!

One of my OBs said two weeks before my due date that DS would be about 8lbs if I went to 40 weeks. The midwife in the hospital said he would be a little over 6lbs. DS came a week early and was 7lbs 10oz, so the OB was definitely on the money.

My last ultrasound at 38 weeks had LO weighing in at 9 lbs. I was shocked but my OB did a check and said nope she'll probably be around 7.5. LO was born at 7 lbs 10oz so my OB was much more accurate!

I had a lot of growth scans at the end because of GD but at 38 weeks my midwife felt around and said "not an overly large baby, he'll probably be 8 pounds at the most." He was born 7 lbs even.

I had a long labor, and I invited all the midwives who kept coming on duty to feel and estimate. They all guessed in the 7 pound range. My baby was long and lean and 6 pounds, 12 ounces. They were all a little off, due to her skinny length.

My midwife did a guesstimate based on my weight gain, my fundal measurement and baby's position. She actually has a chart that she plotted the measurements on and she estimated I'd have a baby in the high sevens but Miss A was nine days over due and 8lb's 9oz

Yup! My Dr did with DS and she said he would easily be 9lbs! He ended up being 7.2lbs- even the ultrasounds were waaaayyy over in weight estimate. my midwife estimated my DDs weight after a late ultrasound said she would be over 8 lbs, and she estimated no more than 7.5lbs. My DD ended up being 7.1lbs and both were just a tad over 18inches.

Take it with a grain of salt, it doesn't matter either way!

At my 39 week appt yesterday I asked OB if she could give a guesstimate on how big my little alien's getting. She said "Oh, we've got a good-sized baby--definitely a little over 8 lbs now!"

I was surprised she could give an actual number...I was expecting her to say like "normal" size or something since this wasn't using ultrasound, just her feeling around. I've heard how crazy-off US estimates can be so I wonder how accurate just prodding my belly can be!

Did anyone else have their care provider guess by feel, and if so, were they accurate?
