We moved ours up about 6 months when the doctor told us we could have a difficult time getting pregnant. Hearing those words made us both realize how bad we wanted a baby soon, so we just decided to try once we were on a planned trip. Doctor was wrong and we came home with a Bahamas baby :)

I always wanted kids and figured I'd have them but me and my husband were slow at moving from friendship to a real solid relationship and were going through school and liked to go on trips. It wasn't until I realized I was going to be 30 that baby rabies really hit and that I said alright, baby time, he'd been ready since day 1 of getting married (so a year before). Baby happened right away after we (or I guess more like I got onboard) decided so I had her just a few weeks shy of turning 30.

A few things did. I just turned 32, and after reading up about age stuff and realizing we might want to have 2, we figured we should start soon if we wanted them before I am 36. Then I went off birth control for something unrelated and realized my PCOS was more severe than we thought; I haven't O'd or had any AF in 4 months. Have a checkup with my OBGYN in 2 weeks so that we can start figuring things out RIGHT AWAY. It might be a long haul.

We had a 5 year plan because I was in law school at night, while working full time. When I made the decision professionally to switch to an MBA, we started thinking about changing our baby timeline. Then DH's best friend got pregnant with their third! We had a family dinner with both parents for my 28th birthday and the topic of kids came up (we brought it up!) -- and DH and I both got really excited about our dads + grandbabies.

After DH's 30th birthday, I went off BC and our 5 year plan turned into a 2 year plan!

Yes, we always knew we wanted a family and I've ALWAYS wanted to be a mom. But like every other couple we had things we wanted accomplish prior to TTC.
When my BIL passed away suddenly it really hit home. Made us realized that life is too freaking short. All that other crap we wanted accomplish prior to TTC does not matter on iota in comparison to us having family.

@HabesBabe:
hahah My husband and I will be 12 years this November. I think both sides would have been perfectly fine with us having kids prior to marriage! hahha

@winniebee-- our timeline was pushed back, too! hubs is currently 30 and i'm 28 (not too young or too old), but we've been together for almost 13 years, so it seems like an eternity to our families!

My ticking clock has sped up my timeline, but my hubs is unaffected. (And having little adorable babies around him does not change his mind.) I'm finishing up my doctorate and he has just begun his. I wouldn't mind TTC next year (once I'm done), but he's concerned about school work, which I do understand. So, *shrug*. We'll work it out...

We knew we wanted to start trying soon-ish but never decided on a definite month but what sped up our timeline from zero to go was when someone made a really insensitive comment to me about my age and the possibilities of my future children having developmental problems if I don't have children RIGHT NOW. I came home from work crying and my husband felt so terrible for me. We started trying that month.

For the record, I was 29 at the time and the person who made that comment to me was a complete moron. But my feelings were so hurt that we decided to try instead of waiting for no real reason.

Well, we originally planned to TTC right after we married but I had lost my job and the insurance issue was hard to maneuver around. I was lucky and found a new position in January 2010 and after researching FMLA laws I realized I had to work at least 1 year when I delivered to have job protection.

I really like my job but in October 2010, my Dr mentioned that I should start looking at TTC since I would be turning 30. We did a month long hormone panel and it came back that I had low progesterone. The Dr. told me that it would be very difficult for me to get pregnant and I would potentially face many miscarriages in the process due to my hormones so I shouldn't put conception off too much longer. We decided to throw all caution to the wind in January 2011 and were really surprised to not only be pregnant but have the pregnancy stick. I guess Bug was ready to be here. If only I could get him out now. These last 8 days are getting really uncomfortable.

I'll admit the age thing also sped up my timeline... not just the cute baby around me! On our previous plan, we would begin at my age 32, and end around my age 36 (hopefully). My husband is leaning towards 3 kids (I say let's see how two go) so on our new plan we'd begin at my age 28 and end at my age 32.

@winniebee - I wonder if that will happen to us as we get closer to "go" time.

@maisymay - I'm so sorry to hear that!

I lost my job! I know, that doesn't make sense, but I was a teacher, and we were planning on waiting until October to TTC so that Baby would be born in the summer and not during the school year, but when I was told I wouldn't get a contract for the following year, we decided to try in June. The ironic part is that we MC'd and will get to try again later this month, when we originally planned.

We kept slowing down our timeline! As we approached TTC, we both kept getting more nervous. But, the delays amounted to only like 6 months. We said we would start trying when I was 30, and ultimately we started trying when I was 30.5.

We were on a pretty solid 5 year plan... until my nephew came along. He's about 6 months now and he's really cracked the plan wide open. We love spending time with him, and seeing each other spend time with him and last night we both talked about speeding up the plan.

I'm wondering if anyone else had a similar situation? I've always looked forward to being a mom of kids, but being unsure about the baby stage and been perfectly fine with starting TTC'ing in 2016. Now, it's like I've been infected with baby rabies!
