DS was a crap sleeper his entire first year, but it was REALLY bad when I had coffee. I switched to a decaf with a very very low caffeine content and it was much better.

I didn't have any caffeine through pregnancy so I was afraid that I screwed myself for coffee while breastfeeding but I started a few weeks after LO was born with tea, then moved up to coffee and she's been fine. She's 7 months now and I always have one cup a day and every once in a while, I'll have a tea in the afternoon/evening. Maybe try and cut back, or have tea instead and see if it helps. There are totally just fussy periods though. LO is a very mellow baby, but weeks 3 - 7 were a bit crazy!

@runsyellowlites: were you drinking coffee all along and the issues started suddenly? Her poo has been greener than usual.

@lawbee11: yes I've been drinking it all along which is why I question if its that or just a fussy period. I'm going to try tea since it seems its coffee, not caffeine, that's the problem.

I thought my baby was sensitive to caffeine around that age, but it just turns out that he was sensitive to life in general between 6-8 weeks ;) Hang in there, Mama!

@Foodnerd81: Have you been drinking coffee since she was born? If so, I can't imagine that all of a sudden it bothers her. I have been slowly introducing caffeine back into my diet, and so far it doesn't seem to bother her. I was reading a blog post yesterday (on alphamom, I think) about how small of a percentage of babies actually have sensitivities to these kinda things (coffee, dairy, etc.) and that they are usually just going through a fussy period. I hope that's what it is for you so that you can keep drinking your coffee!

Only initially. We had issues with dairy, the acid in coffee (which is what my ped told me was the issue, not the caffeine) and nuts/nut butters. All of those things can be hard on small digestive systems. Our issues were gone by 6-8 weeks though.
I drank coffee during pregnancy, too.

P was intolerant to coffee bean... she got really gassy, green poo, and a horrible diaper rash (beet red, out of now where, and wouldn't go away until the bean was out of her system). She was fine with caffeine though so I just drank tea or *dun dun dun* soda for my caffeine fix.

Coffee did bother M. It made her gassy and harder to sleep. I noticed an improvement when I cut it out.
During the 4 month regression I brought back decaf VERY slowly and she's been fine since. Her little newborn tummy just couldn't handle it.

Just because it doesn't affect *most* babies doesn't mean it's the same for yours. Doesn't hurt to give it a try!

I've heard people say that it might not affect your baby if you drank coffee while pregnant (I had a cup every day), but not sure if there's any actual truth to that.

I hope you don't have to give up your coffee!

Did you drinking coffee upset your baby while you were breastfeeding? C has been really irritable at the breast lately so at some other bees suggestion I'm going to try cutting out my morning coffee :(

If your baby was affected by it, was tea ok? Or all caffeine?

I have a feeling it could just be she is in a fussy period in general (7 weeks and a total pill all day yesterday. We both cries before she finally went to sleep). But I wonder how common the coffee issue is.
