My IL's stayed with us to keep #1 entertained and my husband floated between the hospital and home (he ate meals with me and brought food, gave me a chance to shower, but still being present for #1), but slept at home. I really enjoyed the quiet time getting to know my new little guy and just snuggle the heck out of him. If I have another c-section he'd definitely stay because I wouldn't be able to get out of bed to get the baby. My family lives 10 minutes away so they can have DD stay at their house and drop her off to daycare, or just keep her home with them. Also, my in-laws would probably be more than willing to stay at our house with her (they live about an hour away). We have a friend on standby to take LO for the time that we are in the hospital. I think it will be nice to be able to be there together and to both bond with the baby. I am sure our friend will bring LO by every day to visit, and he will be fine without us for a couple days. Plus, there is a good chance I will have another c-section, so I will need all the help I can get. I had a repeat c-section and due to the pain medicine, he either had to be with me or baby couldn't be with me. I wasn't allowed to be on my own for the first 24 hours with baby. I don't necessarily want to stay there alone, but I think I'd prefer it to my husband being there and being cranky. Last time all I heard was about how uncomfortable his bed was and how the tv options sucked. If my mom can stay with me and DH stay with DD, that would be ideal. Otherwise I think I want to stay alone. I don't know what DH will want to do... He will probably want to stay with the new baby. We have no family or friends up here with whom we are close enough to impose a 20 month old crank-a-potamus on. So he'll drop E off at daycare, we'll have a baby (RCS, obv) and then DH will pick E up in the evening and take him home. Wash/rinse/repeat for the next day (except the having a baby part), and we'll hopefully all go home Saturday. If I can't go home then, I'll just have to be by myself in the hospital. No way around it. And if I somehow go into labor earlier, then we're basically screwed! (And not flying my parents up here, b/c it would make me crazy.) My oldest stayed with my parents which was so hard on me, he was only 8 months old and I had huge amounts of guilt over being away from him. With my daughter my husband spent the evening with the three boys to help maintain a bit of normalcy. They were worried and wanted to know where I was so it was helpful to have him home with me. Things were a little tricky because of my c section. But I managed. For the twins he most definitely will be staying because a) I'll have a c-section again and b) there will be two babies crying all night. And, he left very early in the morning to get DD ready for daycare at grandma's house and to drop her off. I wanted things to stay as normal as possible for her. LO1 has never been a sleeper and didn't sleep the first night of his life and so it was nice having both of us at the hospital to take shifts. LO1 will go stay with my DH's parents about 15 mins from the hospital, we went home 24 hours and a minute after birth last time so I hope we'll do the same this time and have all 4 of us at home. It was actually nicer when he slept at home. I had a terrible cold so I couldn't sleep and it kept him up, so when he slept at home at least one of us got sleep. I'm selfish and want him to be close.
