Yes and no. Our LO used to sleep from 8-6 a.m., but around 4 months old he wants to go to bed at 6/6:30 p.m.. He sleeps until 4 a.m. and wakes to eat, but goes back down immediately and sleeps until about 7:30 a.m. It stinks waking up at 4 a.m., but I actually think I prefer it over my day starting at 6 a.m.!

@BKCaribBaby: Actually 6:30 I can deal with. But she frequently will wake up a little before 6 and I just don't like it! So if she is up at 5:30, but not really crying, we leave her in the crib until at least 6, but we would prefer 6:30 to be the earliest, with 7 as the norm.

This morning she was up well before 6, but when DH went in to get her at 6, she had a poopy diaper, so I guess I can't blame her for that. I wouldn't be able to sleep like that either.

for my LO, it never ever made a difference when he went to sleep in terms of his wake up time (always between 6 and 7am, with exceptional days of earlier or later)...but once we moved it earlier, he got more sleep overall and seemed happier and got a better daytime routine going. His bedtime now is about 730pm.

Nope. If he goes down earlier or later than usual he wakes up earlier. He's an 8:15/8:30pm kid who wakes up around 6-6:15am everyday. The past two days he's had a fever from molars and I've put him to bed at 7:30pm....holy 5:20am wake ups. Ugh.

Not for us. it just meant more sleep. As you can see some kids just sleep longer in the morning. As someone who is often up before 6 due to LO, 6:30 seems pretty reasonable to me. :)

No. As a baby he would only sleep 10 hours. He had a 730 bedtime but if we put him to bed earlier than that he would just wake 10 hours later. There were a few 630-430 debacles.

not for us. if she went to bed at 6, then she would get up at 6. before a couple months ago, if she went to bed at 8, she would get up at 8. more recently at 17 months, she pretty much gets up at 7:15 no matter what.

For us, it meant she went down earlier so she got more sleep but didn't sleep in

One thing that annoys me is that when someone else watches her, we say her bedtime is 645/7. Then she gets kept up until 8pm or later because "she wasn't acting tired". Then she usually wakes up EARLIER. So it's a bad cycle for us if she doesn't go down earlier

@lawbee11: Hmm maybe next time she's up really really early I will try putting her back down. The dog barked at thunder the other day at 5:15 and woke her. He almost got sent to the pound for that one. (Kidding. Mostly).

I am thinking I will try putting her down a little early for a couple of nights and see how it goes. Not sure that an extra hour of sleep in the morning would be worth DH not seeing her most nights, though. :(

Yes. She sleeps 12-13 hours from when she goes to sleep, whether that's 7:30 or 9.

She slept better and longer when we put her bedtime early when she was an infant too.

Yes it seems to work for us. DS is 11 months and if he is in bed between 6:30/7pm at night then he will sleep through until about 7:30 in the morning. If he goes to bed after that, even 7:15 at night for some strange reason he will wake up extra early the next morning!

@Foodnerd81: Yeah, I'm grateful that I at least get to sleep in on the weekends seeing as she's still not STTN. If she didn't STTN and woke up for the day at 6 I might cry. When I nurse her at 6 she's usually awake when we're done and looking around. She'll babble and roll around in her crib for a minute but quickly goes back to sleep.

She definitely doesn't nap as well at daycare as she does at home. She usually takes one 1.5-2hr nap at daycare. On the weekends she takes two 1.5hr naps. There have been days where she's teething and only takes one 30-45 min nap at daycare all day! On those days I put her to bed by 6.

@lawbee11: I used to be able to nurse her back to sleep, but not for the last month or more. Now when she's up it's time to crawl around, try to climb off the bed, climb the headboard, smack mom... Even when I do it in her room, pitch black, sound machine still going. It's pretty rare that she wakes before six so it isn't horrible. I just like seven better. We almost always leave her in the crib until 6:30 unless she sounds really upset.

Sounds like M gets a lot of night sleep! Is she napping at daycare?

Have you ever tried nursing her at 6 then putting her back down? M usually wakes around 6/6:15 so I nurse her then put her back down and she sleeps until 8/8:15. She goes to bed between 6:30 and 7.

ETA: Yes, earlier bedtime means later wakeup for us.

No! But a later bedtime (by like 30 minutes) got us STTN & a 12 hour night instead of 11....we push it back as far as we can but she is pretty ready for bath & bed by 715; we're lucky if she goes to 730. She just turned 9 months last week

For us, an earlier bedtime (6-7pm) was very important during nap transitions and when LO was overtired, which prevented her from waking up even earlier than normal, but I wouldn't say it necissarily led to a later wake up time.

Like the title says, did moving your LO's bedtime earlier lead to them waking up later in the morning? Did it affect naps?

We are in a pretty good sleep place right now-- C sleeps through the night, which is amazing, and usually takes an hour and a half nap in the morning and an hour to hour and a half in the afternoon. But she wakes up earlier than I would like. Right now she goes to bed between 7:30 and 8, wakes up between 6 and 6:30 most mornings. I'd really prefer it to be 7 or later (aren't I getting picky now? :) ) She doesn't seem super tired before bed, and DH only gets home around 7 most nights so if I moved bedtime up he would hardly see her at all. I fully realize that she's doing pretty well right now and I'm not actually complaining! We had plenty of months of bad sleep! She is 10.5 months.

So, wondering what others' experiences were with this!
