@NerdBee: she didn't goback down till gone 11. That was over 3.5 hours of awake time! There was just no getting her to sleep. She was very calm (we kept all lights off, tv off) but trying to engage us with lots of gurggling. I think I was right to put her down when i did initially, if I hadn't have done that damn dream feed I think she would have stayed down. Tomorrow will be a day of strict schedule :)

@travelgirl1: Ack! Sorry about that! Sounds like she treated it like a nap. Maybe you could try putting her down around 8:40pm (1.5 hour awake time)? Hope she sleeps well for you tonight.

Gah, we cocked it up! She woke at about 7.10pm and fed really well, back to sleep, then each time I tried to lay her back in her crib she woke up. After five tries of that she woke up properly, MAD! More pacing up and down tonight. Boo.

If she missed her last nap then early bedtime is the way to go since night sleep is more restorative than napping sleep. She may make up missed feedings by eating more at night or possibly tomorrow. My LO regularly had 5:00-6pm bedtimes at 3 months due to short naps and slept 10 hours before waking up for a feeding.

I'm not sure about your situation exactly but when LO was young (like before 6 months) his schedule had some variation and was not "by the clock". The best way to keep a baby from being overtired IMO is to watch how much time he's awake, and work from there. It might be more difficult for us but babies can't tell time so I feel like flexibility helps a lot.

@autumn865: As luck would have it, I'm going to a breastfeeding cafe tomorrow and there is a sleep expert giving a talk. Am totally going to pick her brains!

Sounds ok to me but we are totally not experts! Our LOs bedtime fluctuates up to an hour depending on her naps and whether they were good.

Sorry, anooother sleep post from me : )

We're trying to get A on a sleep schedule as we've been leaving her until she's super overtired and kicking off with all her might.

Last night we didn't let her nap past 4pm and got her down for 6pm - huge success with a few dreamfeeds thrown in and a happier baby today. Big smiles all round : )

Today though she was fighting her naps. I got her down for her lunchtime nap (her morning one was in the ergo as we were out) but she wouldn't go down for her 3.15pm nap, even though she was acting tired. She got upset and it was a repeat of every evening this last week. So anyway I got her to sleep at 5pm. Our new bedtime is 6pm, so instead of treating that as her nap, I put that down as a failed nap and instead dreamfed her and put her down for the night then. I figured that if I woke her at 5.45pm, bedtime would be at about 8pm and that was too late we would end up melting down again.

Did I do the right thing? DH isn't so sure..... I plan to dreamfeed her at 9pm and maybe again at midnight, so she won't miss feedings.
