I have a 6 week old and I have been letting her fuss already. I think that is fine as opposed to a hard cry. She has been putting herself back to sleep, too!

@prettylizy: haha that's too funny...glad it worked for u too! I'm hoping and praying it continues, I was a zombie for awhile there!

@sarac: I totally agree regarding fussing vs full out crying. I wouldn't have the heart to hear her scream at her age, but fussing is a different story.

I draw a huge line between cry it out and fuss it out. I am VERY opposed to CIO, but not letting her fuss. My daughter has always been allowed to fuss for a bit, and we got good quickly at distinguishing between a freaked out hungry/scared/lonely cry and just hey I want something come serve me people. She very often will fuss for a moment and then go right back to sleep, and I think that's absolutely fine.

I always said we accidentally sleep trained too! lol! I didn't feel ready to CIO but I was soooo dog tired one night it took me forever to haul my @$$ out of bed and by the time I got to her bedroom door she was sleeping again. I did the same things as you, woke ever 30 minutes expecting her to wake too, but alas she kept sleeping :) Run with it mama, we're the lucky ones!!

Ever since LO turned 8 weeks, her sleep has not been that great...often waking up every 2 hours or less after 1:30, but then some days she will only wake up 3 times in a 12 hour period. When she was younger her night sleep was awesome, 6 to 8 hour stretches.

I think she is too young to CIO (13 weeks) however 2 nights ago when she woke up yet again at 3am after just being fed at 130, I didn't rush to her and let her fuss for a good 20 minutes. She didn't hard cry so I just let her fuss and saw her suck on her thumb and calm down after 20 minutes and then let out a hard cry and BAM- asleep! I was in shock...she has never done that before. She then proceeded to sleep through til 7:30am! I however slept horribly as I kept waking up to check on her!

Then last night I put her in her crib awake around 8 after she was fed and she fussed for 5 seconds then went to bed. I heard her let out a short scream at her usual 1:30am wake up time, but when i looked over at the monitor she was already fast asleep. She slept til 2:45am so I fed her as it had been awhile for her. Put her back to sleep and slept through until 7am. I am in shock.

Is her sleeping better a total random fluke??? Or did she learn to self soothe that one time by me letting her learn how to put herself back to sleep??? Can babies really learn that quickly? I always heard sleep training takes a good week or so, and I know it's only been 2 days, but last night was the most uninterrupted sleep I have had in awhile and I hope it lasts! I don't want to do anything to sabotage her new sleep but I do still think she needs at least 1 night feeding, so I decided if she wakes after 6 hours for her first stretch ill feed her and 4 hours for her second stretch.
