@Minnie_Girl: Wait, French silk pie has raw eggs in it?! OK this is serious... even if I get it from Village Inn? Because I will totally cry if that's true.

I think you're fine. If it was Italian dressing marinade, then I would cook with it. I think it depends on the marinade.

As long as you aren't basting the meat with the marinade throughout the baking process, you are fine. (Most recipes will say to set aside some of the marinade before putting the meat in it, and use that to baste.) I am sure we have all done worse! If you are okay now, I'm sure there was no harm done to the baby. I used to freak out when I was pregnant as well!

I'm vegetarian - but I am always afraid I'm going to poison SO when I cook him meat. I don't know most of these "rules" and its hard to know when something is cooked - except using the thermometer.
He often gets overcooked meat - "Just in Case".

Luckily growing up in Peru, he has the immune system of a horse.

I keep freaking out about getting sick from improperly washed produce.

@Mrs. Tricycle: I have a total phobia too! DH grilled filets on Sun night and even though he did mine medium (I'm normally a rare kind of girl when not knocked up!), my stomach hurt after eating and I had diarrhea (sorry tmi)...Since I have been constipated since March/getting pregnant, this bout of stomach trauma totally freaked me out and I was so worried that I had eaten some type of bacteria that would hurt the baby. Somehow we narrowly escaped harm on Sunday night too! Then DH freaks me out with this little salmonella scenario last night:) I'm going vegetarian for a few days!

I think your hubby was thinking that if you marinate chicken, you can't then use that uncooked marinade on a piece of cooked chicken for extra flavor. But if they are both heated, you should be fine:)

Liquids are going to heat faster than solids, which is why we are supposed to check the center of the chicken to see if it is done. The sauce/marinade will actually be hotter than the chicken itself.

Almost spit out my drink when I saw that title! Lol. If there was any salmonella in your marinade, it got nicely boiled and it served as extra protein (and I'm a microbiologist, FYI).

you're fine. Everything cooked. If you had drained off the marinade, your chicken at that temp & for that amount of time would have been real dry - ask your husband if next time he would rather have dry chicken! ;p

Unless I just have a TON of marinade I almost always cook it all together without draining (and like @MrsTiz:, use it as a baste). As long as it's all cooked and the chicken isn't raw, I've never seen it as a problem.

ETA: I'm way worse...sometimes if I have a ton of extra marinade I make a sauce on the stove with it (using flour + fat + boiling/simmering for about 10 minutes).

ETA2: You're fine, no need to stress!

No, I don't drain it, and actually baste it onto the chicken/steaks/whatever.
You had raw chicken, marinated it, cooked it, ate the once raw chicken with no hesitations, so what is wrong with the marinade? I would never eat/taste it raw, but after you cooked it I cant see anything wrong with that at all.

not that i know from personal experience, but i'm a food network junky... they always cook the meat in the marinade! the restaurants just stick the huge pan the meat's been marinating in right in the oven. if you're eating that at restaurants, it's probably ok at home!

Tell me if this was super-dumb...

I marinated 3 chicken breasts in Italian dressing in a ziploc bag in the fridge for a few hours. Then I just poured all the contents into the Le Crueset baking dish and put it in the oven at 400 degrees for like 45 mins...

After we scarfed it down, DH asked me if I did it that way, and when I told him yes, he said he doesn't know that I should have cooked the chicken in the marinade that I let it sit in...That I should have probably drained the excess Italian dressing before cooking it.

Did I screw up? I'm SUPER weird about eating bacteria and being preg - so scared I'm going to hurt the baby. The Le Creuset dish gets SO HOT, I"m hoping it would have killed anything bad - even in the juice/extra dressing....Did I do bad here?

I never even thought about that...You can tell how much I cook:)
