@maybebaby: DH doesn't get home from work until 7 or so, and he loves hanging out with DS, so that means a late bed time. I am able to get a lot of stuff done around the house between 7 and 8:30 when DH is playing with DS, then we do a 30 minute bedtime routine and then DH and I get alone time from 9-11 when we both pass out.

It works pretty well for us!

In the infant room, naps suck. It gets better once they move to the toddler. room.

@maybebaby: DS's naps sucked the first week he was in daycare. He would take 2 30 or so minute naps and that's it. Gradually as he became more comfortable there, they've started to get better. This is his 4th week and he has been consistently taking 3 naps, averaging 1-1.5 hours each. He's a happy camper when he gets home. I pick him up at 5:30 and he's a ball of energy until he goes down at 9!

Yeah G's naps suck at daycare. She never sleeps more than 20-40 mins at a time, whereas at home she will easily take 1-2 hour naps. Stinks, but she comes home happy and sleeps 11-12 hours, so I try not to stress.

@Smurfette: I might ask about bringing in a white noise machine. They turn the lights off from 12-2 and play lullabies...I was hoping she'd be able to nap despite the noise from other babies, but no luck.

oh, daycare naps. the absence of them was the bane of my existence for the first 5 months of daycare. LO usually got two 15-minute naps. it was a good day if we got a nap close to 45 minutes, and i practically fainted with joy anytime he got something that was an hour or more. i would pray that he fell asleep on the way home--sometimes he napped for 45 minutes this way, and for a while he was napping 1.5 hours (i would sit in the parked car reading a book). then he was up for an hour or so, and off to bed! fun times.

the infant room recently changed its nap policy/schedule so that there is quiet time for everyone in the middle of the day, so now (at 13 months) he's getting a 1.5 hour or 2-hour nap.

he has always napped more on the weekends. in the early days, he was still taking 3 or 4 naps at home on the weekends. now he takes 2 naps (whereas at daycare he only gets one).

it's not ideal, but i made the decision to grin and bear it instead of getting a nanny.

i think many other babies adjust better than mine did, and i do see other babies sleeping in their cribs when i go there, but LO was too easily stimulated.

@lawbee11: I know it is so hard. There is just so much going on. The room isn't as quiet as it is at home. We bring in a sleep sack and a battery operated sound machine (under the crib) but I don't know how much they really help. R has gotten better, at first I was happy if she took a 30 min nap.

Part of it, I think, is the teachers have to learn the sleepy cues. Now they know what to look for. They know how long is too long for her to be up, etc. All a learning curve.

@Smurfette: I would be ecstatic with 2 45 min naps...M has only been there 3 days, but one day she didn't nap at all! Yesterday she took 1 20 min nap and that's it. Ugh...it's really stressing me out.

LO's naps improved with daycare. It helped us structure his naps better. Last night, LO had a rough one, so I told our daycare lady about it. He may get two naps today with the bad sleep last night. We're in the middle of transitioning him to one nap since he's sort of just gone that way on his own.

Yep! It sucks. R has been in day care since 12 weeks but she takes crap-tastic naps at day. I get excited when she gets 2 45 mins. At home she will nap 1.5-2hours in the AM and usually an hour in the afternoon.

She is moving up to the Toddle 1 room in a week or two. Fingers crossed it will help since everyone naps at the same time.

@maybebaby: yeah, our day care naps have been awful since my LO started in January. They said she would "adjust", but she hasn't. Strangely, it hasn't affected her night night sleep, but she does CRASH as soon as we get home each day and take a long nap from 5-6:30 or so. Sometimes I have to wake her up then to feed her dinner, give her a bath and change her, and then back to bed by 7:30-8:00.

That's become our new routine.

Yes, daycare naps were never really good until he got out of the infant room and into the toddler room where they all took a nap at the same time with the lights down low. But he would take some crazy long naps on the weekends to make up for it.

J, 9 months, started full time daycare yesterday. He is used to 2-3 1-2 hr naps. Yesterday he got 1 30 minute nap!! Is this just par for the course or will he adjust Eventually?

Also, if your baby had bad day care naps, did they still get good naps on weekends?
