Let's not forget that Bellatrix was an incredibly powerful witch in her own right. Had it not been for Bellatrix's taunting stirring up Molly's momma b ear instincts, Bellatrix could have easily killed Molly. She wanted to kill Bellatrix! Even those characters who are technically on the "good side" make a-moral decisions in times of war. It's hard to claim self-defense when your attacker has been hit with something akin to a freezing charm.
