I take probiotics and we give them to LO. I think they help with GI issues. We give drops to LO and they also have the vitamin d our ped recommends. Two beds, one stone. You have to give 5 drops, which is kind of annoying though.
It's biogaia protectis drops with d3. And I take ultimate flora 15 billion.

@Foodnerd81: I mix it into a little bit of distilled water and give it to him in a syringe. But The other way is genius! I'll have to try that!

@Annette: ok thanks! Will try it. And I assume its stores refrigerated at the store. She sucks our fingers a lot during the day so should be ok.

I just wet my finger with some water and dipped it into the powder and had him suck it off. One thing my naturopath mentioned to me was not to put it into anything warm/microwave it because you will kill some of the bacteria so just keep that in mind too. You can buy it at health food stores, I think the company that makes it is called Genestra. I would call ahead and ask if they have it beforehand as not all stores carry that brand. Also make sure you store it in the fridge :)

@Mrs. Oatmeal: @Annette: how do you get the baby to take the powder? and where did you buy it? I would rather not have to pump and mix it in a bottle but will if it would help. I was hoping to buy drops I could put in her mouth or on my nipple or finger.

Yes! We use the same brand as @Annette: it is a powder so that's a bit tougher but they work really well!

@Foodnerd81: Actually yes - but it was by accident. It was probiotics *I* was taking as part of a clean eating plan. I noticed that our once fairly constipated/gassy mostly ff baby was pooping about 3 times as often and happier for it. Ha! And we figured out it was because he was getting probiotics from the small-ish amount of breastmilk he did get! Good luck!

ETA Maybe consider adding probiotics into your own diet!

Probiotics did help with my son's gas pains. It takes a few weeks to see a difference but it did seem to get better after that. We also did lots of tummy massage which helped too.

As for brands I've heard good things about biogaia drops, we used HMF Natogen on the recommendation of our homeopathic doctor as it apparently has more live cultures and more than one strain of bacteria. Only downside of the HMF brand is that it's a powder so it can be a bit more difficult if your baby isn't willing to suck it off your finger (but we didn't have any issues doing it) good luck!

Oh, hey, just me,
Posting desperately at 3:30 am again.

Did you give your infant probiotics? Did it help? Our pediatrician suggested trying them as G, 3 weeks, seems to have some tummy issues. As I said in another thread she is going several days without really pooping and gets increasingly fussy and seems so uncomfortable the longer she goes. She wakes up all night pulling her legs in struggling then let's out some stinky farts but no poop.

I'm going to buy some probiotic drops in the morning, hoping they will help. Any success stories? Also any
Brands to recommend?
