Yes. Unfortunately someone did with our first. When I was pregnant with him, I had bright red bleeding early on. We were going with a very natural homebirth midwife who did not do heart beat checks until 12 weeks, no early ultrasounds etc. so I was on pins and needles and when we told the in-laws at Thanksgiving before our first appointment we told them not to tell anyone and they promised they wouldn't. Except that they did. They announced it at a dinner party they hosted (we weren't there) and the following day I got texts and congrats from friends who had found out via the grapevine because of their announcement. I was so upset!

I never want to tell anyone until after the first trimester (other than really close friends and my parents) but with my second, we told my MIL at 8 weeks and gave her a pic of the sonogram. She posted it on FB immediately after even though we asked her not to tell anyone.

And with this last pregnancy, my 3.5 year old told her preschool teachers and they asked in front of other parents. Ugh, I was 9 weeks at the time and I found out that the baby stopped growing the following week. It sucked to have to tell the teachers and parents that I was no longer pregnant.

And other than that, a lot of random people asked before I was ready to tell because my "blump" is out of control by 8 weeks!

I'm just appalled that people think it's okay to ask someone if they're pregnant.
A couple weeks ago when I was about 13 weeks, my male coworker had the nerve to ask me. I couldnt believe it! Earlier that day he kept trying to force it out of me asking when's the last time I drank alcohol or how far apart would my DD and new baby be if I was pregnant now. I gave vague answers then he finally straight up asked me are you pregnant? I was like Excuse me?? I finally said yes but that I didn't want to talk about it because I was having some complications. Then he wanted to know what kind of complications I was having. Seriously?? Ugh I was so mad. Then he had the nerve to tell me that he could tell I was pregnant and if I was really trying to hide it I could have worn dresses instead of pants. Who on earth says that kind of stuff??

12.5 weeks now and everyone has been incredibly respectful and discreet, to my pleasant surprise :) Even my brother and my mom were tip-toe-ing around it with each other. Not a peep from my co-workers, in-laws, friends, nothing!
ETA this could also have been because everyone knew about my recent m/c's and was spooked for me instead of gossipy-happy for me.

My coworker (and close friend) totally called me out around 6 weeks, after I had been off sick (like actually sick, not morning sick) for a few days. I was a bit thrown off, but was actually happy to have someone k trusted to keep it hush hush at work and deflect attention for a few more weeks.

I had a few people ask me before we were ready to tell the world (they noticed I was not drinking at events when I normally would enjoy a beer). I just lied to them and told them I was not pregnant but just didn't feel like drinking at the given time. They did jokingly give me a hard time about it once we did announce though!

My husband's co-teacher asked HIM "what was different with him - what's going on??" and he decided to tell her! Lol, I guess he was "glowing" after the positive pregnancy test! One of his student's mothers saw me and asked him if I was pregnant -- at 4 weeks! We confirmed, but figured we'd better tell our parents ASAP if we didn't want them to be the last to know!

We purposely DON'T want this to happen.

Unfortunately my in-laws are all big mouths. I wanted to tell my own mom, but it wouldn't be fair to tell my family and not his. So because of DH's side, we're waiting until Easter to tell family.

We might tell some close friends we trust to keep their mouths shut right before. But we're staggering the announcements pretty close and plan to "announce on Facebook" a week or so after telling the in-laws.

A few certainly ruin it for the rest.

Not to me, but my sister-in-law announced her pregnancy to the family earlier than I would have, like at around 6 or 8 weeks. My mil took that as permission to tell everyone she knew (most of whom know my sil as well, even though she no longer lives nearby) that she was pregnant. That was why I made my husband wait as long as possible before telling her when it was me

I have no problem outright lying when people ask you if you're not ready to tell them yet. I can see how in your situation it was pretty awkward though so I probably would have done what you did.

@lemondrop: Haha my daycare lady asked me 2 days before I tested. I "knew" but hadn't actually taken the test yet, her asking made me test...sure enough I was pregnant. She's pretty "famous" for calling the moms out before we know ourselves, she has a 6th sense about pregnancy...it's creepy :)

One of my coworkers knew and apparently ahe wasn't very good at keeping secrets. The whole school was buzzing. I was so pissed. Especially because I'd had 2 back to back losses right before this pregnancy and was NOT confident enough to tell my whole faculty. Then we were waiting to make it FB official until DH got to tell everyone he was close with, and a friend of mine posted pictures of us together with an obvious bump. I had to ask her to take it down until we announced. (I was about 13-14 weeks?)

We told our parents but asked them not to say anything. My mom immediately told all my aunts and uncles. When I called her on it she said "Oh, I thought you said I could tell people, I just couldn't put it on Facebook!"

@tlcbaby: I can't believe people pulled you aside and asked, though! That's so rude! When I was 5 months with this pregnancy a coworker said, awkwardly, "So, I haven't heard anything official but...I'm going to say...congratulations?" (I had told people I work with directly but this was a guy that I knew but didn't interact with much) I looked at him blankly and said "What do you mean?" and he basically turned immediately purple in the 3 seconds I made him suffer before laughing and saying that I was just kidding.

I totally called a friend out once but not in a public way - we had gone out for a fancy dinner that we'd been planning for months and when she didn't order wine I said "You are SO PREGNANT!" and she confessed that she was 6 weeks. I didn't feel bad because they were really close friends, she said she had been dying to tell me but her husband wanted to wait until at least 8 weeks, and I didn't tell anybody.

People were polite enough not to ask me directly, but by 8 weeks it was visible. I had an acquaintance ask my friend at that point but when my friend said I was pregnant but it was early she dropped it. And that was in loose clothes and layers, it would have been obvious in a bathing suit by like, 6 weeks. I literally had to loosen a belt before I even got a bfp.

@Tanjowen: my mom did something similar by accident. She posted something about being a grandma! I called her immediately and told her to take it down. We told parents at only 5 weeks, so we definitely weren't ready to tell anyone yet.

Also, we didn't post to Facebook until we were about 20 weeks, but I had a co-worker (that already knew) post an article to my wall about first time moms and all that jazz. I just called her quickly and asked not to say anything.

Both were somewhat nerve-racking as we weren't quite ready to tell the world yet!

My neighbor asked about half an hour after I got a positive test, but nobody determined out make me admit it.

Congrats though, you will have an excellent big bro helper!

I told work at 7 weeks because of some duties I couldn't do. By 11 weeks or so a lot of people knew. Some asked me why it wasn't FB official yet. Eek - we hadn't even told our parents.
