For the month prior he was doing 1/2x a day, usually before bed and overnight. I finally gave up the before bed nursing and then would offer a bottle of milk overnight if he woke. I'm still nursing at 19 months (though mostly for comfort--I don't think she actually gets much) and she sttn most (I'd say about 75%) of the time. When she does wake up it's pretty erratic, like never the exact same time. From what I saw, weaning had nothing to do with sleep for the January 2014 babies. Even the really bad sleepers started to improve between 15-18 mo and half were bottlefed. My daughter had been night weaned since 10 mo but still would wake up til 15 or so months. She's 8 months now and we haven't weaned yet. We did night wean obviously when she started STTN. DS didn't STTN until 6 months after he weaned. Our problem was related more to his early, frequent, terrible teething and asthma (that we didn't know he had until he was about 18 months). But my really good friend had at least one night waking (5min feed) until he was fully walking at 14-15 months. They made sure to get him a lot of exercise and he was just pooped and started STTN. Nothing worked, even sleep consultants, until then. We immediately went from 3-10 wakings a night to one waking (maybe 2). She still has one session at 3:30-4:30am, but it's like 5 minutes. She went from fighting sleep from 10pm forced bed time until her 6am get up time, to asking to go to bed at 6:30 and waking up at 7.
