It definitely got better, but it took a while--about 4 months or so. What REALLY helped was him finally being able to do a later bedtime--8/8:30 instead of 7. He finally started consistently sleeping in til around 6:30 at that point, and his naps lengthened too.

Thanks everyone! Great to hear everyone's experiences, although it seems pretty varied! I am praying it will work--and not take too long.

@photojane: Talk about a pro! 14 hours of nighttime sleep is amazing. I would be happy if my DD slept
14 hours total each day! :silly:

No, it didn't, but my son was not a good sleeper overnight to begin with.

it took months though. at 15 months charlie was waking up at 5-5:30. but eventually it kept shifting later and later, and now he's a pretty late riser.

One nap vs two naps doesn't seem to have any affect on Xander's nighttime sleep.

Nope. DS still wakes up between 5-5:30, even after going to one nap. Very, very annoying.

We had a two or three week period after transitioning to one nap where he seemed overtired and woke up earlier (like 530 instead of 630). But after that he started sleeping until 7 ! :)

Edited to add this was at 17m. He had stopped taking the second one so we went to one.

for us yes, when she went to 1 nap around a year she STTN and also started sleeping in longer (after 1 month or so of a rough transition) once she got used to 1 nap and wasn't overtired.

She went down to 1 nap at 10.5 months and for the most part she sleeps longer overnight...maybe 12-13hrs, rather than the 11.5 she used to have.

We just went down to one nap and she wakes up 1-2 hours later in the morning! Same bedtime still! It's amazing!

My daughter has been on one nap since maybe 11 months, and she sleeps like a pro at night. 7:30/8p-9:30/10a. One nap in the middle of the day. When she was taking two naps she was sleeping 8:30p-6:30/7a.

Following. My 14.5m old son has been difficult to get down at night and is waking often, after usually sttn. We are going to do 1 nap at daycare and see if that helps.

For us she became overtired from longer stretches and ended up waking even earlier... 4 AM! We're back to two naps at 20 months :/ I think it works for most people though, I say try it!

Absolutely did. She still slept the same total number of hours, but she extended her nighttime sleep.

My 15 month LO has been driving us crazy with 5:15 am wakeups. She goes to bed at 7:30..we have tried moving it up and back to see whether that had any effect on wakeup time, but with no success.

I have been holding out for her daycare transition to one nap, which is happening next week. My hope is that after she transitions, she will stretch out her nighttime sleep a little longer ... an hour would be glorious!

Anyone have success with this? Or remember what happened to nighttime sleep after transition to one nap?
