I was miserable. I didn't care about being admitted I just wanted pain relief. I had terrible back labor. To make things better my Doctor was gone on vacation. When I arrived at the hospital they checked me and told me that there was nothing for they could do unless I progressed. The on-call OB (who is never met) said I sounded fine and because I was a first time mom things would move slow, and to come in around 10p. Her water broke in the morning and they called the hospital. She was told a similar thing to some of the ladies in here - you'll know it's time to come in because you'll be in terrible pain etc etc. Well, that pain never came! She waited at home, breathing through what she thought were mild contractions, until she felt the urge to push. They called the hospital again and were told they may as well come in. They kept her waiting in reception for ages, thinking she was still in early labour - but when they examined her she was 9cm!! An hour later she was pushing! There were women on the labour ward screaming all around her - and she actually asked the nurse "when do I start screaming?".
