DS1 has a lip tie and it did cause a gap in his front teeth. He's three now and the gap has gotten significantly smaller - they're all evenly spaced out. He's seen two different dentists and they've both said not to clip it, and that the space will correct itself when he gets his adult teeth (and that the space is actually good and means the adult teeth will have room).

I'm sure every case is different though!

I never knew a lip tie was a thing until reading these posts on here. When I look in my own mouth, I definitely have one. When I was around 9 or 10 I had a gap between my two front teeth, but eventually it closed in by itself. My teeth are straight now with no gaps and I never needed braces.

We just saw a ENT and my dentist in the past 2 weeks about this. Both my girls have pretty severe lip ties , my oldest has a gap between her teeth. Both Drs recommended we do nothing at the moment. If they need to be clipped, they will do it when they are older. My dentist seemed convinced dd1's teeth would come together as her mouth grows, and if they don't then they will after they clip it. He also said there is conflicting evidence, some saying if you clip it too young scar tissue can grow and interfere with teeth development.

So we are just leaving it be for both girls at the moment

@pachamama: hi! so sorry I forgot to respond on the other thread. So my LO had a pretty big lip tie, similar to your LO, but his teeth came in with no issue and look totally normal now (no huge gap). Cutting the lip tie is NOT recommended for dental reasons (according to multiple pediatric dentists and ENTs I've talked to) because the jaw changes and teeth move as the child grows. honestly, you want big spacing between baby teeth because it leaves more room for adult teeth to come in. So I really wouldn't worry about it if he is eating well and gainig weight.

LO has a lip tie and I wondered about this as well. So far it is a bit hard to tell (baby teeth are just all kind of spaced out) but it doesn't seem like she is going to have a gap.

My daughter had a slight lip tie and a large gap between her teeth as they first started coming in, but now at 3.5 the gap is gone.

My niece is 5. She has a dramatic gap between her teeth, and a speech impediment resulting from it. The speech impediment is not severe, but it isn't great. I know that my sister very much regrets not getting her tongue clipped.

My DS had a lip and posterior tongue-tie. He had both clipped st 3 weeks old due to BF issues. (The frenulectomy was super fast and easy). He has no gap at all between his front teeth now at 2.5.

Here's a thread that has two pictures of my son at 1 year and now at 4.
It's a pretty significant lip tie, but corrected naturally.

My second had a very significant gap from a big lip tie. I was worried about it causing problems for her speech (and orthodontia) but her dentist wasn't concerned. After a few months her gap has gotten much smaller. Time and a few more teeth fixed things.

My LO has a lip tie and tongue tie, and we chose not to get it clipped. When she was an infant, it looked like it would cause a gap, but now at 20 months, her teeth are perfectly fine.

My son has a substantial lip tie. Surprisingly, we have had no issues at all breastfeeding. BUT I'm worried it will cause him to have a big gap between his front teeth later on and there is VERY conflicting information out there on resolving the lip tie or letting it just be.
Did you LO have a lip tie (not a tongue tie), and did it cause a gap in between his teeth later on? What was your experience with frenulectomies?
