As a kid I figured I would nurse until my kids asked for milk, as and adult I wanted a year or two, at times I thought about going till my kid was not interested anymore (5 years, why not?). After birth it was just "tomorrow, I'll make it to tomorrow" with a goal in the back of my head that went to 6 months and then 12 and then 24. At 14 months I started weaning and then stopped. I went in thinking if we made it to six months, that would be huge but I wasn't really fussed about it. I weaned DD1 at 13 months as I was 12 weeks pregnant. </p> <p>DD2: what I expected. I intended on BF'ing for 12 months and then starting to wean after that. When I was pregnant, I planned on 1yr. Maybe a little past that. First few weeks/months, I hoped to make it to 6 months. LO was not gaining weight, and after he lost weight over the course of a month I decided to supplement more. I finally stopped completely at 8.5 months. Next time I hope to have a much more positive experience. Although to be honest, I can't even imagine going through it again at this point.
