Nope. I didn’t. We went to hospital at 3am and didn’t sleep until the following night. I was so tired I don’t think I would have even bothered.

I packed it, but never touched it. If I was having professional pictures taken though, I’m sure I would have.

When my mom had me, she had a hospital roommate who had just had her 3rd baby. They shared a bathroom and my mom walked in on her putting in a whole set of hot rollers :silly:

Yes. I wear some makeup every day. My BFF photographed Ts birth then she shot a few photos an hour after she was born. I popped on a little concealer and blush and mascara. But I was in labor for two days and got almost no sleep and looked a mess. So it helped.

Haha, funny story. I didn't pack make-up for either of my births. My first was a surprise induction so I went from an appointment straight to the hospital with whatever I had done with my face that morning. The induction took 12 hours and the next day a few family members visited throughout the day. I felt great so I assumed that I looked ok too. I actually audibly gasped when I saw my face in the mirror after everyone had left. I looked terrible. Looking back, this is funny, but I was seriously horrified that so many people saw me looking like that.

Second kid, no makeup again, but he was born less than an hour after we arrived at the hospital, so I felt great and my face didn't look so tired and puffy. Much better experience and I did put on makeup the second day.

With LO1 I'm pretty sure I packed make up but never applied any beyond what I happened to have put on the morning before I went into labor. I also didn't pack any decent clothes so I look like a mess in all my hospital pictures.

LO2 was a scheduled c-section, so I did do my make up and hair before going in and I look great! I also packed some make up, a few nicer looking pjs and cardigans for pictures, and make up cleansing wipes. The cleansing wipes definitely helped me feel cleaner and nicer, and the clothes helped with visitors and pictures for sure!

@SweetiePie: Very jealous of the hospital nursery! Both hospitals I delivered at were “baby friendly” 🙄 so no nursery. If there had been I would have also unapologetically sent mine as much as possible!

Yes, I took my makeup bag both times. For baby 1, I had a long labor at home overnight and at some point, I took a shower and washed my hair, shaved my legs, dried my hair, and applied makeup. This was more as a time waster as anything else, because my husband was sleeping and I was too keyed up to sleep (and too excited timing my contractions). Of course, I didn't give birth for another 14 hours, so I'm sure my makeup was worn off--but after birth, I had another shower and re-applied and did my hair.

I should say that I'm a minimal makeup person though--mainly i just wear bb cream and mascara.

With kiddo 2, I went into labor at work, so I had makeup on. It was also a precipitous birth, so I barely made it to the hospital. But in that case, I also had makeup in my hospital bag and applied it after my first shower.

I didn't pack any makeup because I was still doing my face and didn't have travel products at the time. When I actually went in to labor, I wasn't even thinking of putting anything else in a bag.

I didn't bring anything to the hospital when I had DS (planned C that turned into an emergency C when I went into labor at 35 weeks). But, after we got settled in the room, I sent DH home to shower and grab stuff and that included all my makeup. The next morning when they took out my cath, I was able to shower and put on makeup and it helped SO much.

The first time no. I mean I think I packed it but never used it. But I had a less than stellar birth that ended in an emergency CS, nicu, pumping around the clock, finger feeding, and pretty bad ppd/PPA that set in almost immediately.

This 2nd time (5.5 weeks ago) was totally different. I unexpectedly went into labor at 36 weeks but I had most of my bag packed including some pampering items. I knew I would not BF and would unapologetically send my baby to the nursery whenever I needed rest or recharging. So I took scrubs, masks, all my normal skin and hair products, hair tools, and makeup 😂
Before anyone thinks I sound ridiculous, 1) a hospital stay with a newborn is like a spa weekend compared to being home and pregnant with a 3yo and 2) I was trying very hard to stave off ppd/PPA so I tried to take a much more relaxed approach to postpartum days, focusing on self care. Because that’s where I spiraled our if control last time. Learned my lesson. Taking a daily shower at the hospital (4 nights) and doing my normal routine really helped me feel like myself. I’m almost 6 weeks out and still feeling really good and I feel it’s at least partly because I’m worrying about my well being way more this time.

@SweetCaroline: I had a similar first labor.

My first, I was in labor 2+ days and it started overnight, so hell no. I was in so much pain and looked terrible and I just did not care.

For #2 and #3 I got ready in early labor. They were both born in the late afternoon/early evening. With #3 I even put on a cute dress and was sitting on the couch willing the contractions away when MIL got there to watch the older two...it was a holiday. :silly:

I had been in labor all night by the time we went to the hospital, so I had put makeup on but was too distracted to do my hair. I bawled off the makeup during delivery so look like a hot mess in pictures, but I did put it on before leaving the hospital and for some weird reason it made me feel just a little more ready to tackle parenthood at home.

I would like to look a little more put together for no. 2 during labor, so I'll need to plan a little better.

I'm actually kind of shocked by the responses to this thread! I was in active labor at home with a sunny side up baby for 30 hours before going to the hospital (which was dumb, FTM following the rules, should have gone sooner...) And then labored for another 13 hours at the hospital and then pushed for 2 hours. Makeup was the last thing on my mind before and after birth and I ALWAYS leave the house with a full face of makeup.

Just reminds me that my labor wasn't exactly typical I guess! I will likely pack some makeup for #2.

While I normally wear it, I was way too much of a hot mess after birth and mostly just worried about whether I'd be able to pee when I got a break from feeding :silly: Lol, I can't believe people manage to put makeup on before pushing - I was screaming in pain and vomiting, so that definitely didn't happen...
