@Mrs. Bee: I changed mine so we'd all have the same family name.
I'm a teacher and I find it so handy when the whole family has the same last name. Makes it easier when I'm writing notes to not have to remember the last names of the Moms on top of the last names of the kids (and remember which Mom last name goes with which kid last name).
Also as a teacher, my last name is really 'out there', and I am proud to have a married name....it was fun to have the transition at school from Miss ___ to Mrs _____. I don't regret it one bit.

Part of the reason I changed my name was for kids. I liked my last name so I just took it as my middle and moved on. I also like having the same name as my husband. Less confusion.

Not for my kids' sake. My husband's last name is sweet, if a little comical (it's a homonym for a type of sandwich), and it's shorter than my maiden name.

Nah. I thought about it when I got pregnant, but I'm keeping it. It might mean a little bit of a hassle when we're traveling, but it's no biggie. She'll always know I'm her mother regardless =)

Plus, it's really common to not change your name here, so there isn't a negative association behind it at all.

I changed my name. It was important to me that we shared a family name. Our first and last names (!) rhyme, so if would have been *really* strange if I'd hyphenated -- it would be like Ken & Jen Slone-Hone. Okay, it was really hard to think of two made-up first and last names that rhyme LOL

I didn't change my last name though I did take his as a second middle name. I was already too far advanced in my career to make the change. The kids have my name as a second middle name and that's good enough for me. Most people know my husband as mr mylastname because I'm the only one who works outside the home. It always cracks us up!

I didn't change my last name when we got married (3 years ago) - for a lot of reasons. We're expecting our 1st in August - but I'm not planning on changing my name at that time either. I don't think it's made us any less married to not have the same name, and so far we haven't run into any problems with paperwork, etc. I enjoy carrying my maiden name and, unless I have a huge problem not sharing a last name with our LO, don't see myself changing that anytime soon.

I changed my last name, even though I love my maiden name. My maiden name is really really common which made life easier since my first name isn't as common, now with my married name I have to spell out both first and last name when asked.

many spanish speaking cultures do not have women change their last name, and each person has two last names. If my name is Jane Doe and DH's name is John Roe, our child would be Mary Roe Doe. Dad's last name first then Mom's last name. All legal documents ask for your two last names.

Given this, DH never expected me to change my last name.

I was planning on changing for the convenience of us all having the same last name, but because we have multiple citizenships it was was going to be way too much paperwork so I didn't. I was actually conflicted for a long time because I don't really like DH's last name, so it sort of worked out better that I couldn't do it..haha. That said, I don't mind using DH's last name socially.

Just got married, and DH is really upset I haven't changed it. I'm emotionally attached to my last name!! So far, (and it's been a month), I've been asked if I'm the child on the insurance policy, or if the insurance holder is my dad. If it stays this annoying I'll change it after the bar exam so I don't have to deal with sending in all the paperwork while applying to sit for the bar. I know he really really wants us to have the same last name (but won't change his).

I legally changed my name a few months before Elliot's arrival because I wanted our family to share the same last name. I also had to correct a mistake made on my legal name, and my pregnancy gave me the push I needed to go through the process. I actually kept all parts of my name, but I moved my maiden name into the middle. Elliot shares my maiden name in his middle name too. :)

Because middle names are not common here, we opted to give Mavrick both our last names. We did it for my father. Seeing he had only girls and his last name techinically wouldn't carry on. He was touched.

I never changed my name to my husbands (we don't do that either in QC) so it's kinda nice he also has my name. I admit it will be a hassel when he will be in school...

I have not legally changed my name yet (we've been married for over a year), but I'm thinking about it. On most things concerning my daughter I go ahead and sign my maiden and married name together regardless. One reason I haven't changed it yet is I'm about to become an elementary teacher and my married name is much more difficult to spell/pronounce for younger children than my maiden name. Time will tell I suppose.

Having the same name as my child was one of the main reasons I decided to change my name. Though I'm not tied to my maiden name at all professionally, I loved it so much more than I do my married name.

I don't regret my decision, though. Growing up, my mom had the same last name as my stepdad, and my stepsisters had their grandfather's last name (I have no idea why, though) and it was such a pain, logistically.

I changed my name because 1) husband's last name is only 4 letters and much easier, 2) I'm sure folks back home would have been super confused if I didn't, and 3) call me old-fashioned, but I like taking on his name. Kids never even crossed my mind as a reason, actually I guess the thought of not-changing my name never really crossed my mind until I saw some gals on Weddingbee not changing theirs.

I didn't change my name when I got married because I thought I wanted to keep my maiden name professionally since I'm an attorney and didn't think it would matter when I had kids. After having my first kid and going through registration for different kid classes and for preschool, etc., I realized that I wanted to have the same last name as my kids. In NYC, there are 2 ways to do that - get remarried or go through the court process and have to place an advertisement in a local paper, etc. So after 6 years of marriage (when first kid turned 3), we got remarried and I officially changed my name.

I changed my name partly to have the same last name as my future kids and partly because it was important to my husband. I do kinda regret it because my maiden name was unique and my married name is one of the most common Korean last names and Grace is a really common first name for Koreans so my new name is very generic!

I changed my name for a couple reason. I never was super attached to my maiden name to begin with (it's super common) and I always just assumed I would take my husband's when I got married. I also knew that I wanted our whole family (us plus children) to have the same last name. So I guess it was partially because of the kids thing, but also because I just always knew I would.

as long as your passport matches your ticket, they don't really check. you only need to change those that affect taxes so there's no issues when the computers match the info.

I changed my last name after getting married because I wanted to have the same last name as my child. Mr. Bee actually didn't want me to change my name.

I really regret changing my name now because I loved my last name, and 4 years later I still haven't changed my name on most of my accounts or my passport (I've left the country on several with my maiden name passport without issue). Also I don't think it really matters that much in this day in age if you don't have the same last name as your child.

If I could go back in time, I wouldn't have changed my name. That said I only use my maiden name in day to day life anyway.

Did you change your last name so your entire family would have the same last name?
