No, but I tried. My cravings for sweets are just so strong, and I am so weak.

Nope. Nope. Nope. I'm another one of those sick and just need to survive pregnant ladies. I'm over 20 weeks and still puking so you know, I just eat whatever doesn't make me gag. Before pregnancy I had a very good diet and walked a couple miles every day. Sigh.

First pregnancy I ate very well all the way through and didn't touch caffeine. This time I'm a little less cautious and a lot more nauseous, so I've had my fair share of instant noodles and McDonalds chips, plus chocolate and coffee! Trying to balance it out with plenty of nutritious food when I can stomach it though. And taking prenatals every day.

Kind of. I paid more attention to where the food (particularly produce and seafood) was grown/harvested. I was living abroad at the time and there's a big difference in the food that's available, so by default, I was eating locally and organically grown food. I didn't feel badly eating McDonalds at all because, after all, the beef was from local cows and they're protected by a ton of government regulations.

@ShootingStar: yes, but the Mayo Clinic has a few suggestions to help reduce one's risk of developing it, but I understand it's not a guarantee. I already am at increased risk due to age/race/family history and food is the one something I can control.

I ate reasonably well before becoming pregnant so I didn't make too many changes. I did try to avoid refined sugars since our bodies react differently to them during pregnancy but that kind of went out the window in the third trimester (albeit still in moderation!)

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Just so you know there's not really anything you can do to avoid GD. It has to do with the placenta and the hormones it produces.

Nope. I cut out alcohol and cut back caffeine (but not pop, just drank more caffeine free). And I agree with a PP that the "do not eat" list is really silly and not based on actual risks at all. My doctor agreed that is basically fear mongering pregnant women.

I had major adversions to fried foods until the last couple weeks of pregnancy. I did try to eat healthier too, more along the lines of increasing fruits and veggies rather than cut out bad food completely. I gained just under 25lbs, and felt strong going into labor and delivery.

My first pregnancy (ended in m/c), I had major food aversions to all sorts of healthy things so I ate much worse (lots of mac and cheese). With LO, it wasn't as bad but I was pretty healthy to begin with so I just tried to keep that up as much as possible.

For DD1, I already had a really clean diet, but for DD2, I had such bad morning sickness that I had to constantly stay full in order or it to stay away. That got me on a bad spiral of bad eating for the rest of pregnancy... and still now. Food is just too good to not eat ;-)

@ShootingStar: ha ha, I know cookies are no banished forever; I'm just waiting to really crave them!

@plantains: oh yeah, Mickey Ds is still in my rotation. I had a fish filet last week, but held the fries & soda.

@yoursilverlining: on some list I found it said no smoked meats, bacon and ham. Kilbasa was a breakfast staple. I'm so happy that I had the best ever BLT in the TWW. I think that sucker had half a dozen slices of crispy, thick cut bacon. That should keep me happy for a while!

I guess part of me is trying to avoid GD by being good now (while I can) since I needed to lose 35-40 lbs before I became pregnant.

Other than reduce my caffeine intake and the "not approved" foods, I ate pretty much like a college dude. I had SUCH awful morning sickness that I basically lived on Egg McMuffins and fries. Anything carby, fatty, and greasy was the only thing I could stomach.

My OBGYN told me just to take folic acid and eat what I could because the baby was going to leach anything it needed from me. If I had deficiencies in my diet, I was the one who was going to suffer, not the kid. Once I could handle it, I was back on prenatal vitamins and tried to eat a lot of fruit or smoothies but I pretty much let my cravings dictate my diet all pregnancy.

No way – the opposite happened! My first (and much of 2nd) trimester diet was appalling….but I was also extremely sick all.the.time and would rather eat crap than not eat at all.

I’m all about moderation anyway – and I don’t think pregnancy is the time to restrict (obv, if you have GD or some other legit reason to do it, that’s another story).

Nope, I ate really well before I got pregnant. Pregnancy is not the time where I can eat grilled chicken and steamed broccoli with abandon. The broccoli turned my stomach and the chicken made me want to throw up. I didn't eat terribly, and when i did count my calories, i noticed i was well within an acceptable range for my height. I still gained a fair amount, but it's coming off very quickly now that I'm back to my usual habits. I did a fair amount of smoothies in the first tri....I had no appetite to actually eat something, but i needed something so I wasn't hungry

No, only when the baby was measuring big and my OB said that reducing carbs and sugar could impact her size. So, I did just that, and not only did I lose weight, but her growth evened out and she's now measuring in the 68th percentile rather than the 95th.

I basically don't eat any sweets anymore, don't drink anything other than water (other than the very occasional coke zero or glass of wine), and very closely monitor my carb intake.

Noooo. I had such bad morning sickness I ate the only things that felt good, which were, unfortunately, cookies, ice cream, etc. Veggies and most other healthy foods made me feel nauseous right until the end. That will be why at 4 weeks pp I have 40lb to lose.

I cut back on caffeine and cut out alcohol (for now at least), but other than that I didn't change what I eat. I don't even avoid the "do not eat" list because I think it mostly overblown and not based on actual risk. My OB said no raw meat/fish or alcohol, but everything else is fair game.
