@Petitduck: I’m really only planning to use it as a toddler bed to push off having to decide what to do about other furniture for her room! I won’t buy the guard rail, just take the side off if she starts climbing.

Nope. Mine doesn’t convert so problem solved. Haha. My kid went straight to a twin. If it did convert though I would have considered using the toddler bed and full-size features.

@psw27: @catgirl: good point- my first never chewed on it but my second has definitely chewed of more of the finish. Not awful but not pristine.

Nope and it was so dumb that we even bought the rails. My first chewed all over it so the crib looks wrecked. I can't wait to get rid of it!

DD's crib could only convert to a toddler bed not a full size bed. I'm actually glad we didn't get one that could be a full because DD went through a long period of chewing on her crib  so the whole thing has bite marks on it. Not something I would want to live with long term haha

@looch: yeah they tried to sell me the guard rail toddler conversion kit when I bought our crib so we could guarantee it would match the wood. But considering I knew we’d have a second who would need the crib, so it would be many years before we would use that, and you can buy a generic bed rail guard thing for twenty bucks, I didn’t get suckered in. But with the brand we got (Pali) the conversion kit is universal for all their cribs.

No, because we didn't purchase the conversion kit and when it came time to do so, the kit was discontinued (I think it's a scam by the crib companies to get you to buy the conversion kit when you purchase the crib).

I ended up giving that crib away to a family friend when we were done with it.

I'm not sure what we'll do yet. #1 moved into our full sized guest bed (used to be mine before marriage) when #2 needed the crib. We're at the stage now, where we converted the crib to the toddler bed for #2 and will need to decide what to do in the near future. Ours only converts to a headboard and it would look decent in a big girl room, but the dresser is designed with a recessed area to use as a changing table and will probably be replaced. So if we need to buy a new dresser and mattress set and bed frame, would it just make more sense to sell the crib and dresser together? I like the idea of both kids having full sized beds though. Then we can shuttle them in together when we have guests and let the guests sleep in the other bed.

Yep! When I bought their convertible cribs I bought the conversion kits and matching dressers/ night stands

This will be their furniture until they move out.

We converted DS1’s crib to the full size bed with a head and footboard. We never converted to a toddler bed.

DS2 is still in a crib at 2.5. The crib doesn’t convert so he’ll go directly into a twin when it is time.

My son’s crib converts just to a toddler bed, which is my preference. I didn’t want a full size converted crib because all of the cribs I liked had slats/ rails on all four sides and that just doesn’t seem as comfortable to prop up against.

Both my older two loved the crib but refused to sleep in the toddler conversion bed. I don't know why.

DD would half sleep in it and then come and climb into our bed. It coincided with our moving into new house so she got a brand new furniture set (full sized bed) that she still sleeps well in.

DS refused to sleep in it when we converted this spring. All summer, he would fall asleep on the floor and I would move him into the bed but he always ended back up on the floor. We ended up moving our queen sized bed to the floor (we upgraded to king) and he sleeps great in it.

My LO’s room isn’t big enough to have any play space if we had a full bed there, so we converted the crib to a toddler bed initially and then moved up to a twin.

We did. Used it as a crib, then as toddler bed with the rail, then as a full size bed. It matches the other furniture she has and we didn’t have younger siblings who needed the crib before she was ready for a big bed. I also think she had an easier time transitioning because it was the “same” bed just in a different shape.

We went ahead and bought a similar convertible bed for LO2 now that she’s arrived with similar plans.

@erinbaderin: yeah we haven’t bought the conversion kid for ours yet, but it’s generic for the brand (like no specific wood pieces that have to match). But I don’t think I would love it as a head and footboard anyway. And I do love it as a crib.

Same as above, we’re finally on our last kid for it but it won’t work in the room so we’ll sell it. We have the ikea hemnes daybed for #2 (and I love it - looks nice and so much storage!) and may end up with another when #3 is older

We didn’t, partially because we never bought the conversion kit, partially because we moved a younger sibling into it, and now finally because it doesn’t make sense in the room. It’s cute as a crib but it doesn’t feel like a little boy’s bed. We moved B into an Ikea loft bed and W just moved into B’s old toddler bed, and the crib is going on kijiji.

Along the lines of my previous question about furniture, if your crib converts to a full size bed/ headboard and foot board, did you convert it and use it at a full?

We put my older LO directly into our old guest bed (previously mine and dogs bed) when she started climbing out, since baby’s sister needed the crib anyway. The younger one is 3 now and expressing an interest in a big bed. We haven’t decided what we will do. I got the crib in a maple color to match a dresser my mom gave us, that had been mine as a child. She has more furniture that matches but it is 30 years old, so I’m not dead set on using that. I’m sure we will take the side off the crib first which will buy us longer to decide. I just wonder how common it is for people to use it as a big bed as advertised.

Weboughtthe crib because I liked it and it matches. Didn’t care so much whether it converted.
