I definitely cried - DH didn't seem to understand the holiday AT ALL (I don't know if he even used to get his mom a card!) and it was also the first mother's day since my mom passed.

To avoid disappointment, I resigned myself to treating the day like any other day this year (my 2nd Mother's Day) and DH really stepped it up. So I still cried this year because I know he really made an effort, which definitely goes against his nature!

Yes, but mostly because I missed my mom and I was still having a hard time adjusting to being a parent and I knew that if my mom were alive, she would have been such a help and would have loved LO so much. Actually I probably cry every Mother's Day for this reason.

Not at all! I put more of the focus on my mom though for being so amazing! And I was still kinda in disbelief that I am a mom and is a part of mother's day, lol.

Yes, I'm pretty sure I did. My twins were a week old and I was a hot mess. My FIL was insisting we do something nice for MIL (he wanted us to take her to brunch while he watched our one week old babies  ) and I just couldn't handle it.

I have a photo that was taken on that day and both my son and I are grinning ear to ear. It was about 5 months after his birth and I think I had finally emerged from that post partum fog.

I didn't cry. There wasn't anything to cry about. I thought it was kind of silly celebrating this year as I haven't done much as a mom yet. LO is less than 3 weeks old. I liked DH's note in his card thanking me for the gift of fatherhood and my mom's card welcoming on the journey of motherhood. I felt both captured what a super new mom should hear on this holiday.

Yes. LO was in the NICU. Cried happy tears when I saw the card the night nurses made me with his footprints on it. Cried sad tears because I just wanted to be home with my baby!

I cried and got in a big fight with Dh on my first Mother's Day. He doesn't always think things through and I felt like he was being selfish. He's been doing better and this year was the best yet (or closest to my expect ions I guess!)

I cried today! But strangely not because of the baby. We were looking at our wedding photos after we got her to bed, and I teared up thinking of how much fun it was and how much I love DH and how much we love our friends and family and they love us. And now DD gets to be a part of that love :)

Because of disappointment, joy, or both?

I don't remember any more but I'll say it's safe to say I did cry. Probably a combo of all of the above since I was about a week postpartum and my mom was staying with us. I remember it being hard because I couldn't do much for my mom since I was house bound due to "sit month". So I felt guilty for that. DH was outside working most of the day so I felt alone and sad on my first Mother's Day. I found out later in the day he was really sad because he was thinking of his brother who had passed just 2 years ago. He was sad he wouldn't ever get to experience parenthood. He did apologize and I understood and forgive him now, but was still sad about it then!

Anyway, for those of you celebrating your first Mother's Day. If you cried, you're not alone!
