My LO was born on her due date via a normal birth with an epidural and true labour lasted about 10 hours. My mom was early with my sister and brother but 13 days late with me; her first two labours were 6 and 8 hours whilst my brother took 26 hours.

We had very similar pregnancies (no morning sickness and really no negative symptoms at all) and our labours were pretty similar as well. I hope this holds true for subsequent babies for us!

Mom delivered all 3 of us early. I was 2 days late.
She didn't labor for very long.. I think her max was 13-15 hours (with me). I was a huge baby though.
Thankfully I didn't labor very long either. 12 hours from start to baby.

I delivered 10 days early (but was on bedrest for 7 weeks due to preterm labor). My mom delivered all 4 of her kids a week to 10 days early but never had preterm labor!

Induced the first time (at 41 weeks) and gave birth 3 days early for my second. First with an epi the second all natural.

My mom was induced the first time around (for me) at 41 weeks, but gave birth 2 weeks early for her second. Natural both times.

Mine was really similar to my mom's experience with me, and to an extend my older sibling.

She was 4 days late with her first, but labor was 7 hours from the first hint of it to his arrival. She tore with him because he came so quickly (and we were big babies) With me, I came on my due date and again, he labor was 7 hours start to finish.

I had my LO basically right on time (I had two edds and she came right in the middle) and I was in labor about 8 hours, although I had contractions the whole day that were totally bearable, which my Mom never had until the show was really on the road.

I haven't delivered yet, but so far my pregnancy has mirrored my moms, at least with me.

- She said with me she was sick for 4+ months..I was sick past months 5 and 6!
- Obviously, I am a girl - and I'm having a girl.
- She only gained 20 lbs, I've gained 15 at 31 weeks.

She delivered me almost 2 weeks early and had me 14 minutes after arriving to the hospital. I hope I deliver a little early, but want time for the epidural!

@c.sassy: Oh dear (for me at least).
My mom had pretty easy labors, as she tells it, with all of us. My sister, the second, was born in the ER because they had no time to get to L&D, she came so fast.
My sister was 10 days late when she delivered and she had an emergency c-section.
I'd rather be like my mom! But they both had pretty bad morning sickness, and we all had pretty bad periods and cramps, got our periods later (13ish). Neither had trouble getting pregnant, though, so fingers crossed some of these things do pass down to me.

my mom had toxemia, I had pre-eclampsia. She had a c-section, I had a c-section. So we were definitely similar =o)

I was born 2 weeks early (Scheduled section.) Liv was born on her due date (also a scheduled section.) She was in labor for HOURS with my brother, but got a terrible infection and ended up in an emergency section

Both my doctor and my doula told me that pregnancy/labor tends to be more similar in sisters than in mothers and daughters. So far that has been true... my pregnancy has been the complete opposite of my mom's!

I don't know if we (there's 3 kids in my family) were early or late, but I do know that we were speedy when it was time to come. My sister was the fastest- my sister came 20 minutes after she got to the hospital. I didn't have such luck... but I'm ok with that because I wanted enough time to get an epidural!

My older brother and I were both about two weeks late, my sister was a few days late, and my youngest sister was late but was induced at two days late, so I'm not sure how late she would have been. My daughter was 12 days late. My mom's first labor was 24 hours with intense back labor. Mine was around 12 hours with no back labor (although rushed along with pitocin at my doctor's request.)

I gave birth 2 weeks early and ended up getting a c-section.

The one thing we did have in common was that our labor started because out water broke, and is was a big gush.

I delivered 6 days before my due date, my mom had me 8 days late. She is a little bit bigger than me, I honestly think that my son ran out of room and that's why my water broke when it did.

I delivered at 9:49pm, my mom delivered at 6:46 am.

I had an 8 hour labor, my mom had a 7 hour labor- probably different because I got an epidural and she did not.

I had 8 weeks of morning sickness, my mom had 1 week of morning sickness- I had a boy and she had a girl.

I delivered late like my mom but I thought labor was excruciating while my mom had 4 natural labors and said labor wasn't that bad.. That not bad is from a woman who talked to me for 15 minutes this weekend about the pain from a bruise she had.

I HOPE my labor experience is similar to my mom's. She said she walked across the street to the hospital (dad was a resident at the time so they lived in hospital apartments) and I arrived around 30 minutes later! She didn't realize she was in labor because apparently the pain from the contractions "weren't that bad." But I was about a week late. I hope my LO is on time!

My experience was almost the polar opposite of my mom's! I was born 3 weeks late by emergency c-section after hours and hours of labor.

With my first (and only so far!) I went into labor two weeks early, labored naturally at home until 9 cm and it was a relatively fast and enjoyable delivery!

Like you, I totally assumed I'd go late. I was shocked and in denial when that was not the case! I was definitely not one of those, "get this baby out!" types... I was sort of annoyed because I still had stuff to do! LOL.

I guess this appears to be two questions, but I hear they're somewhat related. I've *heard* from some people, including my doctor, that it's good and wise to find out how my own mother's pregnancy progressed, and how the delivery went, all because this information might be relevant to my current pregnancy/future delivery, as if there is some sort of passed-down/hereditary component to it? I know my mother's experience is not going to be 100% my own, but I'm wondering if there is some truth to this based on your own personal experience. I can't speak for delivery, but my mother apparently didn't experience any morning sickness, and lucky me, I didn't get it either! :) However, my mother was past her due-date when she delivered me and had to get a C-section because I guess I was a stubborn baby and wouldn't come out in a reasonable amount of time. >_< So, late or early for you for your first pregnancy? I've also heard that first pregnancies tend to progress past the due date!
