At first I didn't want to get them but my grandfather fell very ill and it was important to me that he be able to see her. We had them done and he passed away two weeks later. I'm so glad that we did it and it really helped me grieve my grandfather and bond with the baby. I used one of the images we got as a focal point during labor. And also as a distraction from work before my mat leave started...

Our OB's ultra-sound machine does it already so we never went out to pay for it to be done privately. It's pretty cool from all the ones I've seen of our friend's LOs. Our LO always likes to cover her eyes, but so far everyone thinks she's my mini-me.

I did as part of a medical study, at 36 weeks! It looked remarkably like her. So cool. I shared it on IG 1-2 weeks ago!

I don't think we will. If everything is normal, I only have a 12 week and an 18-20 week ultrasound. I don't feel the need for any extras unless they are medically indicated.
We aren't finding out the gender, so it would probably be a little trickier to avoid seeing the boy or girl parts that way, too. I have the rest of my life to see what he or she looks like.
I do think some of them are really cool, but rarely would I ever be able to pick out the baby based on the 3d ultrasound.

Yes we did, but she loved having her hands by her face so we could never really see her! She still sleeps with her hands over her face, so it's a personality trait she's had since the womb :)

I find them kind of creepy, too, but when they've done ultrasounds at my dr's office, they flip the 3D part on and give us a few. I think they are only creepy while they are partially formed....once you're pretty far along, they actually look like babies and then it's kind of cool. I'm curious to see what she looks like in a couple weeks!

Yes, my favorite thing from pregnancy! We did them at a private place at 15 and 30 weeks, the first was as early as we could get gender, the second was perfect to see what he looked like. That one really helped for naming him. It looked just like him! I fell so in love with him at that point. We had one at my ob's at 36 weeks, but their machine wasn't as good, so the pictures weren't as impressive. It was fun though since they had an ultrasound extern there, so she taught him a bunch of stuff and we got to see the baby for a really long time!

@autumnlove: LOL yeah we did one at 33 and one at 37. Actually one at 36 too, but just a bpp, no growth estimate. They did that because the midwife I saw that week doesn't like NSTs so she pulled me off the machine and put me in the ultrasound room instead. They're not really as fun as they used to be because they're so squished in there you can't see much in the 2D. 33/34 is about the limit for being able to see a 4D clearly.

We did, but didn't plan on it. I was hospitalized for preterm labor and they did one then, around 30 weeks. Generally, I think they are kind of scary, but I think my LO's was cute : )

Yes, but we didn't intend to. We weren't going to go out and pay for them, but I had to get a growth scan at 33 weeks because of my GD and the tech had extra time so she pulled some 4D shots. They were actually really amazing and I'm so glad she did that!

I'm not pregnant yet, but we won't be doing those ultrasounds. For me, I want as much to be a surprise as possible. We aren't finding out the sex, or choosing a name until the baby is born ... So, we'll do the regular ultrasounds our midwife recommends, but that's it. Nothing against the other, we just aren't really interested.

it was really neat.
