We eased in with both nanny (our short lived foray into nanny care ended in drama though, ugh) and daycare. I was lucky enough to be able to slowly get LOs adjusted to their new situations. My LOs are on the dramatic/sensitive side so it helped them feel safe and we ironed out the kinks and carers got used to the quirks.

Is there something nice/necessary you could do for a few hours while your nanny watches LO? I went out to lunch with a mom friend who was doing the same thing as me, or ran errands without a baby, shopped for some new work clothes! It took my mind off the "oh god I'm leaving my baby!!" Freak out.

Yes, I did a half day and it was the best thing for me. I dropped him off in the morning (and hung around for maybe 45 minutes before I got the courage to leave). Then I went home, cried, pumped, ate a cookie, & took a nap. I went back to pick him up after only 3.5 hours, but it was good for me to know I could do it and so could he. It got a lot of my initial boo-hoos out before I actually had to go to work for a day.

Yep! I went to pick her up after 4 hours and they were about to call me. She was crying hysterically cause she wouldn't take the bottle, so had been 5 hours since she had eaten. Or napped. I started crying, while I nursed her there, they told me to bring her back the next day so I would feel better for Monday. So I did and she did much better, and they got her to eat. It made me feel so much better about leaving her on Monday all day.

we first did a trial day before we hired her. Once we decided on our nanny, she came back like 5-6 times in the 2 weeks before I went back to work, only for about 4 hours each time. She was inexperienced with young babies, so I felt better having her come multiple times while I showed her what to do.

Oh and he did half days for a week at daycare as a trial before starting full time.

We've always done a trial day for school and nanny. Works out really well. It was never a full day though, just a couple of hours.

Yes, I did a few hours with both daycare and nanny. It was more for me than the baby. They were too young to know.

I was on the nanny end of it, but yes I typically did a trial day. It wasn't usually the whole day though. I think 5 hours or so. Some of the time was spent with the mom (parents) learning where things were, and sometimes they would show me around the neighborhood/where kids schools were etc. then they would leave for a bit to see how it went. It was good for me too, so I could see if it was what I wanted before a start date.

Kind of? We used a center based program, so we did a phased approach. For a few weeks, he went only in the mornings, eating lunch and having afternoon nap at home. Then we did lunch at the center and nap at home. We finally did the afternoon nap when the director was confident he showed signs of readiness.

We did a trial half day at day care on a Friday. It was HORRIBLE. She flipped the f out and they called me to come get her early because they thought she was starving even though it had only been 90 minutes since she last ate. I was terrified when I dropped her off on Monday. Turned out, she did awesome. They had a tough time getting her to nap great at first but there were no dramatic cryfests. In hindsight I'm SO GLAD we did the trial day to get that initial freak out out of her system before it was a full day and I was at the office where I couldn't come resuce her at the drop of a hat.

Yup! It worked out well since the trial day I was really sick so I appreciated the help! I was able to help and coach for naps, routine, meals etc but had time to sleep/rest in bed.

Our sitter offered to do a trial day with DS so she and I would both have an idea of what to expect when I go back to work in two weeks - diapers, feeding, etc. I don't want to give up a whole day with him, but maybe a few hours would be good.
