We didn't sleep train but one thing that did help us was to have a more consistent routine during the day. Something else I also read was to make sure that LO was well rested before sleep training so that you're not battling with an over-tired baby.

@scg00387: keeping track is a good idea. We have a tendency to give up quickly! We are both planning on using iPods. We live in such a small apartment that any kind of CIO would be brutal!

@Silva: I wrote down my plan and shared it with DH and set a time frame to reconsider. I thought there was no way it was going to work and that I'd have to keep rocking him ad nauseam. Tracking how long pick up/put down took each night helped me see that it was getting better -- and knowing I was committed to doing it for 5 days before reevaluating helped me stick to it (although we saw a marked difference after 2 days).

The way you're doing it, I would get ear plugs or ear buds/ipod ready as well!

We have decided to try sleep training starting next week. My daughter is 6 months old. The main goal is to get her to go to sleep without assistance.
Currently she nurses to sleep and we co bed. For the past two weeks she won't let me leave her at all, so I have to nurse her and lie with her from7:30 on. I'm over it.

Our plan is basically parent attended CIO. So night one it will nurse her, put her down, and me or my husband will stay next to her, pat her, whatever, but no picking up. Night two will be less support, and slowly moving away. By night 5 we hope to be doing Ferber style checks.

What can I do to help her and us prepare for this? She is a terrible sleeper in every way, it seems impossible for anything to work...
