We got a 3 shoot package where each shoot had to be completed within the year. $1200 for the package. Totally worth it, I cherish those pictures. Less so the newborn posed shots, but more the family shots with us huddled around the newborn. </p> <p>Next time around, if there is one, we will definitely do it again and I would pay $1000+ for it if I had to, but I bet you can do better if you shop around or find a lifestyle photographer. It includes a shoot lasting 2-4 hours (depending on how baby behaves) that will be the just the baby and then some family pictures as well. Ours isn't that expensive and I can't remember the exact price but I think it's about $500. My husband has a DSLR and a ton of fancy lenses. He wanted to DIY, so we set aside an afternoon and did it then. We got a few cute snaps of our son, but the few family ones were took were awful. I think the issue was that we didn't really know what we were doing (most of my husband's photography is nature and buildings vs people). Over the years (my son is now 3.5) we've both gotten better about using the fancy camera to get great snaps of him, but the sleepless newborn haze wasn't a great time for that learning curve.</p> <p>That being said, I really took a while this time to find someone who had a reasonable package for the upcoming pictures. I think we're paying in the range of $400-$500 for "lifestyle" family pics in-home, which includes 25 digital images. We'll do a bunch of family pictures (the most important ones to me will be of my son and daughter together), and then my son will go to school and she'll snap some newborn poses, too. We paid a little more than that for four sessions (maternity we swapped for our other kids birthday, and then newborn, six, and twelve months.) we've also done pics with a photographer who charges $200 for a cd of the images and hers are hands down my favorites. I think you can find a better deal, but I've seen worse. They change so fast, I guess it's worth it if you've been dreaming of sleepy newborns forever (assuming you get one of those! They were free for my 1st because I lucked out and found a local photographer who needed models around my due date. I paid around $350 give or take with my other two kids. I got about 20-25 edited images with each. I printed them with Mpix. </p> <p>These pictures are priceless to me. They did shots I could never replicate because I don’t have the eye or training. The first time, we paid 1k for the session and all digitals (we were supposed to buy a smaller package and pay less but in our sleep deprived state, we initially purchased the list of all the photos we didn't like by accident so then we had to go back and buy all the photos in order to get the ones we did want). I regretted doing it, although I do like a handful of the photos. This was the type of newborn photography that is very staged and the only photo she got of our family together looked just awful. I probably wouldn't have regretted it as much if we hadn't paid for all the photos we didn't want though.</p> <p>For our second baby, I used our family photographer (who I had found in the interim years). Her price was way more reasonable, I think maybe $400ish, and included all digital prints. Her style is more natural and we got many more photos of our family together, including some amazing ones of my older child with the baby. I love those photos and have no regrets. I'm not sure if she would travel to you (she is in Cambridge) but wall me if you'd like her info. She seems to have raised her prices a bit but she is still way more reasonably priced than some other local photographers here. </p>
