With my second we unintentionally did shettles, (weren't really trying after an early m/c) and we only had sex on O-4 and she was a girl. So worked for us!

We didn't try it either time, but based on what I know about the timing, it worked as it was supposed to both times. (1 boy and 1 girl).

The book Expecting Better has a good summary of research that has been done debunking Shettles.

We had a boy on the way and I'm pretty sure he was conceived from one night 5 days before O. And my girl was conceived the day of O. So my n=2 are basically opposite of what Shettles theorizes.

We didn't try for shettles, but our third son should have been a girl by a long shot (O-4 based on very strong ovulation symptoms and only one possible conception time, confirmed by ultrasound, too) and he was definitely a boy. I've read that some women's PH is just more favorable to certain sex sperm.

I think I comment on every Shettles thread but I'm very much convinced that it is bullhockey.

I know someone who did it--and followed it to the letter. She tried for a girl both times, and ended up with a boy first, and then a girl :)

ETA there is more to it than just the timing of sex. There are positions, diet, etc etc.

Based on Shettles, my current bun should be a boy, but it's a girl.

ETA: We were not trying at all, but I was charting in prep to TTC a few months down the road. Obviously, the timeline got moved up.

I was not charting but based on physical symptoms I was pretty sure my second was conceived at the end of ovulation, which should mean boy. But she is a girl. I'm not voting though since I don't actually know when I ovulated.

Eta: if we ever decided to try for a third (unlikely) DH would want to try for a boy. But I wouldn't want to deal with charting or anything so I doubt we would do shuttles anyway.

I know it's somewhat controversial (some people swear by it and others thing it's woo) but I'm just curious.

Both my girls were O-2 and O-4. I don't know about the diet portion that they recommend (we weren't specifically trying Shettles, just a coincidence).

We are debating going for a third. If we do, we'll likely "try" for a boy but obviously will be happy either way :)
