I did the NT screening and our results turned out that we were high risk for downs syndrome. So, we had a CVS test done right away and the test results came back negative for downs syndrome. It was probably the roughest 3 days of my life waiting for the test results to come back, but it was such a relief to know we were carrying a healthy baby boy. :)

I didn't do any testing. In my mind, it didn't matter any way. That said, I think I might choose to do them next time. I don't know why, but I think I'd worry less with results either way.

Yes, did it for pregnancies. It's non-invasive and it was covered by insurance so it was a no brainer for us. We just wanted to be prepared either way.

We did the sequential screen and were booted out of the algorithm based on a high risk of trisomy. We went for CVS and found that the little one was just fine. It was actually the placenta that was deficient. When I delivered it was found to be the size of a sandwich bag. I had such peace of mind during the pregnancy to know that Lala was ok. I highly recommend sequential screening. It is now standard of care.

@CupCakeMama: Geriatric? Yup, me too! Although AMA (Advanced Maternal Age) is the fancy term for it. I am 36 (first baby for both DH and I). :D

I did both the NT Scan with the integrated two-part blood screen, and also had an amnio. Somebody mentioned the test where amniotic fluid is drawn, that's this one, the amniocentesis. A needle is inserted through the belly and then through the uterus (aided by an u/s) to remove amniotic fluid. I was surprised to see how much fluid was taken - it was quite a bit. But the doc assured me that I had *plenty* of fluid. That's also when I found out butterbean was measuring a full week ahead.

Just like @cupcakemama, I had the blood test, and then the scan. The scan can only be done between weeks 11 to 13 + 6 days (something like that). I had to get an early ultrasound to make sure we were back from our vacation in time for it. Anything later and the test isn't as accurate. Because I did the blood test first, I was able to get the results right away.

I did what I thought was the normal NT scan - the blood test a few days before and then the scan at 13 weeks. I thought the later component was a whole separate test, I didn't realise it all combined together. I'm a bit 'older' (only 32 but it kills me that they consider me slightly higher risk because I'm over 30!) so we definitely wanted to know. Our pre-assessment risk was about 1:470 and after the test, our risk went down to 1:9400, so we didn't opt for any further testing obviously.

I think it's worth it for peace of mind....

I'm getting it done. Just got the blood draw today and I go for my NT scan on the 23rd. Then I get a second blood draw between 15-20 weeks. My docs office called it the California Prenatal Screening Program. They printed me out a sheet of time windows of when each test should be done.

We took the test with my first pregnancy. First the 12 week ultrasound put our chance of downs to 1 in 125 (at my age it should have been 1 in 329). Then the finger prick and 5 drops of blood put us at 1 in 5. We then did a CVS that put us at 100%. We miscarried at 15.5 weeks. I am so thankful that we had the test and had a reason for the miscarriage.

This time I was prepared in advance and we started the testing earlier. We did the finger prick at 10 weeks and the ultrasound at 12 weeks. With these 2 tests each baby (we're having twins) put us at 1 in 1,645- great numbers do we didnt take the chance of a CVS.

My advice is take the test if knowing those thingsatter to you. If they don't matter don't let a test stress you out. The waiting game with our first pregnancy was the worst in our marriage.

Also, there is a new test on the market (since this October).ost insurance won't cover it yet, but that is changing. There is a new lab offering the least invasive test on the market. At 10 weeks they take a blood sample from the mom. From this sample they can pull DNA from the baby and test all the chromosomes. This test will be looking to replace CVS and Amnio. It is worth asking if the test is available in your area and if it is covered by your insurance.

I did just because there is a family history on my side for down syndrome. If there had been something "wrong" I would have wanted to be as prepared as possible in advance.

My health insurance wouldn't have covered it if it weren't for the family history, so I'm not sure I would have done it otherwise (especially since I'm a healthy 24 year old).

We did the NT scan, and every other type of genetic testing that was noninvasive and covered by insurance. We got the ultrasound, and then a blood draw, and they gave us the preliminary results of the scan (i.e., "normal range", or "elevated risk") right after the ultrasound. If the results had not been within the normal range they would have scheduled me for a CVS immediately. They called with the blood results which gave our specific ratio risk for Downs about a week later (ours was 1:10,000 which is apparently as low risk as they go).

We also did a blood draw for the Ambry screening test on the same day which tests for an additional 75 genetic disorders, and got those results in about a week and a half.

@regberadaisy: the downfall of the test that I did is that you don't find out results until later - like 17 wks whereas if you just do NT scan and initial blood draw you find out at 12 wks. But at our NT scan the dr gave us plenty of reassurance so we were not worried. The upside is that this test is higher accuracy and less chance of false positives.
