Those were all in the second and third tri. Probably 5 or 6 total. Never an entire drink because I was convinced that I would go into labor and have booze in my bloodstream. The dinner was 5 courses and a huge splurge. I found out earlier in the week I was pregnant and was so bummed, but ended up deciding just to have a glass of wine over the course of the entire 3 hour meal. I was 5 weeks, I think, and don't regret it at all. I honestly think not having wine would have taken away from the meal. That was during my second trimester.</p> <p>I did stop drinking in public during the last few months of my pregnancy when I was showing a lot. It's ironic that social anxiety is highest when there is the least risk to the baby.</p> <p>I sometimes nurse in public while drinking a glass of wine though. Only trace amounts get into your milk. According to one article we read, it's equivalent to the amount of alcohol in apple juice. I don't do it all the time, and I never have more than one glass. So I just don't worry about it. My kid is meeting his milestones, off the charts for height, smiles a ton and sleeps fine.</p> <p>Obviously it is not ok to abuse alcohol or drink an extreme amount when you are pregnant or nursing. And of course no one knows exactly where to draw the line. But the occasional glass of wine does not seem like a substantive risk to me. My midwife couldn't just say, yes it's ok, but told me that if a person is affected by the alcohol then the baby is too.<br /> I took sips of the limited edition beers my husband likes to buy for himself (when I would normally have a little 6oz glass), and had half a glass with my MIL when we were in Scotland together. I'm not muh of a drinker anyway, and it didn't taste the same either). Strangely I had friends who were very offended that I wouldn't drink and wouldn't stop harassing me about it quoting various studies done. I talked to my doctor about it and she was very against it. Frankly there are very conflicting studies out there and no one really knows how much is okay or what the effects are. Usually I would get a glass, but would be turned off by the taste after 1/2 to 2/3 of a glass. I had some at home and multiple occasions in public. A) I don't find a risk in a glass of beer or wine. B) people, usually my sisters, did give me some looks. But I.found a well-timed, "oh, I didn't know you were an OB" got them to shut it :silly: </p>
