@tequiero21: Yep! Twice for me. If you have PCOS you are at an increased risk for gestation diabetes, so I had an early test, because if it was positive, we wanted to be able to get on it early, to prevent any effects on the baby. I did the 2 hour version of the test at 10 weeks, and will do the 2 hour version when I repeat in 2 weeks.

ugh, they told me to fast 1 hour before so I had a slice of pizza 1 hour and 15 minutes before...yep, FAIL! So then I had to do the 3 hour test - blugh! I tell all my preggo friends to fast all day, they'll be happy they did.

I have mine in two weeks and the directions say to eat normally, and chug the orange drink 45 minutes before I get to the lab so they have adequate time to draw my blood. I plan on avoiding sugary foods as much as possible beforehand (test is at 3:30pm - ugh). Fingers crossed this helps me avoid the dreaded 3-hour test!

Mine is this coming Thursday. My doctor told me that if I wanted to eat something, just to get 2 eggs in my belly and only drink water. She said no carbs and definitely no fruit/juice.

I had orders from the doctor for 1-2 hour fast, and I just woke up and went first thing in the morning before breakfast. Failed my 1 hour, haven't gotten my results from the second, but I'll update tomorrow when I know.

I had to do an early GTT at 10 weeks (the 3 hour version), and my instructions clearly said to fast between 10-12 hours before the test, I passed at 10 weeks, but still need to repeat the test at 24-28 weeks.

I've never heard of not fasting and doing GD test. That's news to me. My doctor even went as far as to tell me to lighten up on the carbs for dinner the night before bc sometimes those exams give false positives.

my instructions were to eat non-sweet food - likes eggs and toast or something. and not to eat an hour before the test. well, i didn't have anything in my house, so i went to buy a croissant and bagel that i was going to eat after the test.... well, i got hungry, so ate 2 bites of croissant like 10 minutes before the test. i passed.... luckily.

@skibobrown: @Pipers Mommy: I also had the 2 hour test. My ob said it was more accurate than the 1 hour. I actually just had it this morning and it wasn't too bad. The hardest part for me was fasting. I woke up at 3 am absolutely starving and it was so hard to fall back asleep!

@Pipers Mommy: I also had to fast and had the 2-hour test. You're the only other person who I've heard from so far whose doctor initially ordered a 2-hour test. It was a huge pain, but I like that the 2-hour test is way more accurate than the 1-hour version.

My instructions were to eat normally. I had the test mid-morning so I had apple cinnamon oatmeal and a cup of coffee like usual with water the rest of the time. I passed the 1-hr test with flying colors.

My instructions were to fast from 10PM the night before. I had the initial blood draw at 9:40AM, drank the glucose, then had the second draw at 11:40AM. (In the UK you wait 2 hours and it's the only test they do.) I passed just fine.
I said something to the tech about how some women in the US are told not to fast (it seems to vary a lot) and she was all shocked and said it wouldn't be accurate... It makes more sense to me to eat normally, but what do I know? :)

I had to fast per MDs orders. My doc actually ordered a 2 hour test, she said because most people fail the 1 hour, 2 is a happy medium and provides more accurate data, don't know anyone else that has done a 2 hour test. I was ready to eat my arm off by the time the test was over, torture for any pregnant lady!

I have not had mine yet but my doctor said not to fast beforehand, and also not to pig out on carbs or sugars right before. Mine is at 8:30am and I don't usually eat that early, so I'm going to try to eat a higher protein snack after dinner (or larger dinner than usual) the night before so I'm not too hungry before the test.

I had my test done in the afternoon. a lot of people told me not to eat because that might make me fail the test. But my doctor told me that if I fasted before the test I wouldnt get accurate results. She told me to just eat as normal but avoid anything too sweet and dont eat about an hour or so before. So I ate a large fries and 10 nuggets from wendys about 2 hours before the test. My results came back fine. if I had fasted I would be worried that the results werent a true relfection of my blood sugar on a regular day

ETA: I stayed up late and ate as much high protein food as I could before the fasting deadline started.

For those of you that have had you GD screening, did you eat before? If so, what did you eat? There's so much mixed info on this out there. Some say don't eat at all, some say eat a high protein snack before, and some say eat normally. My appointment is in the morning and it seems to me like after not eating all night, and then skipping breakfast, that all of that sugar would shock my system and make my results high. So, I'm leaning towards the high protein breakfast. What was your experience?
