@T-Mom: I totally agree! With my first, I couldn't wait for her to grow up and for it "to get better". With my second, I'm like, "slow down please"!

@mrs. wagon: :-D that is true about the sleeping. during the week, DD1 only ever sees the baby sleep and we are constantly telling her to whisper or that she can't poke baby sis!

@Mrs. Pen: I think the newborn still gets plenty of attention, but the challenge is making time for your toddler. As everyone else has said, the older one will be really interested in the baby so it is easy to involve them. Right now, I can't spend as much time with DD1 as I would like and she's on Team Daddy for the first time ever, but it'll get better. I just happened to have DD2 in the dead of winter and we are mostly stuck at home. Once it is warmer out, we'll do a lot more family outings and it'll feel closer to what it was before.

Yes! Other than the breast feeding part. It was a lot easier to know what to expect and that the hard times don't last forever.

@Mrs. Pen: somehow it just works! DS was really interested in having a new baby, he treated her like a house guest, haha. He plays independently pretty well too. The only difficult part was disciplining DS while holding baby (like putting him in a time-out). If I realized he needed mom time, DD would go in her swing and usually fall asleep while we played and cuddled. It still works that way, during her first nap, it's "mom and B" time.

Absolutely. My daughter is my fourth but I enjoyed her infancy way more than the three boys.

@Mrs. Pen: it's actually not difficult for us because Wagon Jr. is pretty independent and loves helping with LMW. So whenever she's awake we involve him. And she sleeps a lot! He goes around daycare telling everyone "shhh, LMW is sleeping"! His teacher asked him if LMW is ever awake and he said "nope!"

isn't it harder though not being able to devote all your attention to the newborn? That's my worry - splitting time between a toddler and a nb!!

but I am looking forward to not having such a rough recovery next time :)

So much more. Also, I had an easier delivery so I felt way better and could focus on her more.

That's awesome, good for you! I had a similar experience. Everything was 10x easier and I find myself wishing that time would pass more slowly, whereas for the first, I wanted things to speed up so I could get past the rough times.

I do! I am not so stressed out and not crying! I enjoy holding her while she sleeps and I know that she won't wake up so many times a night forever - here's hoping anyway! And our nursing sessions have been relaxing from the start since I have done this before.
