Lorelei slept in it for brief stretches until she was 11.5 months (less than 30 minutes at a time) for moments where wearing her wasn't practical and we had the padding in it until we stopped using it alltogether. We did wash before first use (everyone at our house has sensitive skin) and periodically (once per month or less since it didn't get very regular use).
