I did some prenatal DVD workouts early on but after I found I was carrying twins I stopped. Part of that was a lack of energy, another part was I was nervous that it would cause me complications. Not really rational, but that was my mind frame ...

I had zero energy to stay awake outside of work hours, let alone exercise. However, my MFM was extremely conservative and really did not want me exerting myself at all. I don't think he would have been thrilled if I had been doing a lot of exercise, honestly. His goal was to keep my babies in 38 weeks, whatever it took. We made that goal.

@Caly: @marionberry: Thanks! I will ask my OB.

@sarac: Yeah, it is odd, but then again this pre-natal water class is offered at a hospital. So maybe they have extra liability. Or I wonder if something happened to a mother with multiples and now they can't offer it to us. I guess all it takes is one time. I'll talk to my OB and see what she says.

Is that true? Are women with non complicated twin pregnancies seriously advised not to exercise at all? That just baffles me!

I'm surprised that they say that, especially since the class is in water. I never asked my OB about it but honestly I got enough exercise chasing my son and was so exhausted that I never felt the need to do additional exercise. I agree with @caly that you should just see what your doctor says.

I did not but it was because I was completely miserable the entire pregnancy and honestly just in survival mode. However, my dr did give me permission to exercise since I had worked out regularly prior to getting pregnant. I would ask your dr and go by what he/she says.

Eta: congrats again, btw! I was so happy to hear your news!

Found a cool prenatal water exercise class but they have this disclaimer...

The class is not open to women who are expecting twins or other multiple births, because exercise during multiple-birth pregnancies is not advised by either the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) or the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).
