Mom was overly strict. It was only in my teens after they divorced that I realised how bad their marriage was and what a truly awful husband my father was to my mom. No wonder she was so moody most of ghe time. I was constantly avoiding her nitpicking over trivial issues. I still do that today, but I am also less close to my dad now due to a certain experience I had 3.5 years ago. My dad has a fairly extreme personality, and for the first time I was the explicit target of his irrational control freak tendencies. I think that was just a function of him not being around much though (he worked long hours) so when he was home that was fun time. And he'd take me to do fun stuff. My mom was the 24/7 caregiver and disciplinarian so we had a more complicated relationship. </p> <p>I don't think I favor either now either. I'm probably closer to my mom I guess because I talk to her almost every day, but I love and enjoy my dad equally we just don't have cause to talk so much.
