My grade's lunch time is the earliest @ 10:40, so I pumped then. We have daily plan period of 50 minutes, so I took 20-25 of that (@ 12:20ish). I also pumped right after school at 3:30. </p> <p>I asked for a meeting with my principal right away with my ideas for pumping to clear it with her. When meetings were scheduled (during plan time or after school), I asked if I could leave early/come late. She agreed. After a while, some co-workers complained (I guess? No one ever came directly to me). I told my principal I would pump whenever was convienent for people and had no problem coming to all meetings, but she would have to find someone to cover my class those days. I explained I was trying to avoid that because it seemed like imposing, but it was fine with me.</p> <p>She found people to cover my class. It's natural to feed a baby breastmilk and pumping is what gets the job done. I had a good setup and, even when I was walked in on, I felt covered and comfortable (A&amp;A blankets hide *everything*!). </p> <p>It was annoying/uncomfortable when people acted like my pumping was a nuisance to them. I go into an empty office but sometimes they gather around in that vicinity to talk because it is near the break room and when I come out with my milk jugs and pump parts I feel so awkward!!! I think my coworkers are a little more uncomfortable than I am. I pump in a shared room that has a door, and I put my pumping times on the door. Usually a coworker will ask "Are you using the room?" when they need it. I just think it's funny that they ask that instead of "Are you pumping anytime soon?" I do pump with my back to the door just in case someone walks in by mistake (no lock), and I think only 1 person has ever walked in on me in the last 8 months I've been doing this. And then she kept walking in and looking around for the thing she needed. Because the pumping room is on the other side of the building and there isn't a sign up sheet, so it could be occupied, I just pump in a storage room. It locks when the door is shut and only two people have keys and they know I am using the room. I am hidden behind some boxes. My door was always locked from the outside, I had my boss walk in on me right as I was packing up one day and another day a secretary gave a kid her keys and a kid walked in on me. Sooooo glad my pumping days at work are over! I share my office and the pumping room at work was also shared. There were two curtained off areas, but there was no back to them, so you faced a wall with a curtain on either side and your back to the opening. There was often more than one person pumping at the same time... which was just awkward. I also took wayyyyy more time than my allotted break time, which sometimes made me feel guilty. My boss is so hands off though that I don't think she even noticed all the time I spent away from my office. Sometimes I would work while I was pumping but I couldn't make phone calls so if people called me, I would ignore them, even though they knew I was in here!!</p> <p>I do.not.miss.it. At all. </p>
