I flew internationally during my first trimester. I made sure to sit near the bathroom, drank a ton of water and walked and stretched often. I also packed some candy to offset the nausea. I refused to go through the scanners and was patted down instead (the only place that gave me a hard time was in Amsterdam, within the States, it was a given and very convenient).

LO is here now and she's healthy. But I honestly would not do it again. I was absolutely miserable. If we had the option to postpone the trip, I would have done it in a heartbeat. Maybe because it was so far, but it would been so much easier if we traveled during my 2nd trimester.

I've flown so far at 8 weeks and 15 weeks. At 8, I felt totally normal. At 15, I was uncomfortable and just made a point to get up and walk/pee every hour or so.

Yup - flew both 1st and 2nd trimester and puked the entire flights!! :(

I didn't have any issue going through the new full body scanners since the FFA says the level of radiation you're exposed to is less than the level you're exposed to in less than 10 minutes of flying in the aircraft. But I know a lot of people don't like those machines, and a pat down isn't too big of a deal either.

I was 6 weeks pregnant when we flew to Bora Bora, which was a LONG INTERNATIONAL flight and I was fine. Just make sure you move around and have some antinausea meds and tons of snacks around. I felt so nauseated, but that could just be me.

I flew to Denver at 8 weeks, and then to Michigan at 13 weeks. No problems, other than being really really tired when I got home. Oh, and the Memphis airport is my least favorite. We had a one hour layover, and it was so crowded and the options were so limited that was impossible to get something to eat. I was STARVING and had to make do with Chex Mix for dinner (that I had to wait in a 10 person line to pay for).

My doc told me not to go through the new fancy machines. I asked to go through the old one (as many people were doing), but I was informed that I was an "opt out" and had to get the pat down. I've been felt up by TSA four times now. Honestly, the women were all very professional and it wasn't a big deal.

I flew to France in my 5th week and back in my 6th week (from TX). No problems so far, but make sure to move your feet/legs and get up to walk around, since pregnancy puts you at a higher risk for blood clots. I was pretty nauseous on the way back, and plane isn't the most ideal place for that--make sure to bring sea sickness bands and something to much on, maybe some preggie pops or something...anything that could help in case you start feeling bad!

I didn't fly at all during the first trimester, but have been flying a lot during the second. My OB was completely OK with it and didn't event caution me against the scanners. I did ask for a manual pat down (up close and personal!) on this last flight (23 weeks) and felt fine on the long flight (NY to London). The only complaint I have is that I did have some swelling in my feet, but it came down after some sleep and lots of water.

I flew a ton during my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd trimesters. Baby is fine now. Apparently flight attendants, who spend many, many hours in a plane at altitude, have very slightly higher miscarriage rates than the general population. The risk is miniscule... especially if you're only going to fly once or twice during your 1st trimester.

i flew at 8 weeks and had no problems. morning sickness made me more sensitive to the motion of the plane (which i am not normally sensitive to at all), but that's about it. i flew several times in the last 2 week (23 weeks) and the only problem was my tailbone was really sore. plan to fly again in about a month.
