I'm not really a big believer in them, as I tend to just get sick anyway but usually don't develop anything serious over the flu season. He said that while it's good to pass down whatever immunity to the baby, we're not quite in flu season yet and so it will be a waste of a shot.</p> <p>I'm still not sure if I'll be getting the shot before or after BebeDeux arrives — I guess it all depends on when she will decide to make her appearance. When I'm pregnant, it will be the same. I'd rather a day or two feeling flu-ish than getting full on sick (I know you still can get a different strain, but I'd rather try a little prevention). I won't get one with my next pregnancy either.<br /> I don't find them to be super effective. Flu shots are made to handle 1 strain of the flu but there's thousands of flu types out there and you don't know which one will head your way, plus the virus is always changing. You could get the shot and still end up with the flu.<br /> Every body is different though. If your body is prone to getting sick easily it'd be worth it to try to avoid the flu. I too had never had a flu shot before in my life and luckily never caught the flu. I get minor colds off and on, but never any major illness (knock on wood!). </p> <p>My OB told me since baby will come right in the middle of flu season and will be too little to get a shot, I could at least pass the antibodies on them by getting it. I did a lot of research but ultimately made my decision based on a gut feeling. I respect others who chose differently, though. The first flu shot I ever got in my life was when I was pregnant with Charlie... and I got violently sick for 36 hours afterwards! </p> <p>I'm the type of person that only gets sick once every couple of years. But having a child does make you get sick more often... I had two major colds last winter that I caught from Charlie.</p> <p>Since I'm pregnant (the baby gets immunity through me) and I have Charlie, I got a flu shot though I'm scared I might get sick again.</p> <p>Did you get a flu shot when you were pregnant or are you planning on getting one this winter season? </p>
