i called my plan before i had the baby but they don't cover one. They would have covered a rental for a period of time, but i hadn't been on the plan long enough to even qualify for that.

oh well. I thought it was cool that my entire pregnancy & birth & post partum checkups for me and even initial check ups for the baby cost us only $500.

I get something, but it's really unclear what. I tried calling a few weeks ago and got nowhere. I'm not due until July, so I'm going to wait a few months while they work out the kinks and then try again. I'll be a SAHM but I still want to be able to pump efficiently.

I do. Infact, I technically am on two insurances because I haven't aged out of my parents which means I get two! No idea which ones they offer yet though

My insurance would only cover a manual pump, and I had to jump through a bunch of hoops to even figure that out. I was super bummed.

@MsLipGloss - insurance is super confusing and I work in it every day! It also doesn't help that there are a million acronyms - HDHP, HSA, FSA, HRA, HMO, PPO... it goes on and on :)

@MsLipGloss - The HSA is the savings account that is attached to a qualified high deductible health plan. You can use any money saved in your HSA to reimburse yourself for a breast pump regardless of the plan you're on. It is a reimbursable expense - see page 6 of IRS publication 502 -
http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p502.pdf

Your actual medical plan will cover breast pumps differently.

I work in health insurance, so I know way too much about the ins and outs of HSA's.

Nope I wasn't eligible yet when LO was born so I bought my own. I'm a SAHM so no need for two. I was troubled on another thread where someone suggested getting one even I they didn't need it to resell- were all paying for the pumps in one way or another! I'm totally in support of the ACA hanged and especially this one but I hope it doesn't get abused. I also hope United. Healthcare gets its act together for future mamas it was a huge ordeal figuring everything out with them and different reps had different answers.

No - bought my own.

@CarrieLouWho: I think it depends on the HSA you have as to whether or not breastpumps are covered, and/or what type of pump is/may be covered.

Yep! I had LO in October and bought a Medela PIS. We had our insurance renewal 1/1 and I ordered a new one. It took a while to come in, but now I have 2 of the same pump - one at work and one at home. LOVE IT!!!

*** If anyone has an HSA, if you purchased a pump it is a reimburseable expense!

I had LO in April 2012. I feel like I might be the only one who received a free pump from my insurance company before the ACA "free" pump benefits began in August and January 1st.

We had our LO in Nov 2012, so I bought my own medela pump.

Yesterday was my first day at work and at the suggestion of a HB user, I called my insurance and ordered a non name brand double electric pump for free so I can keep one at work!
