We had them done with R, after we knew we were going to lose her. We had plans to do them with L (so my first live LO), but she came early (33 weeks) before we could. I am sad we weren't able to do them. But I do regret not getting newborn photos. Newborn were much pricier than maternity and DH and I thought newborn (Anne Geddes style) were silly. However I've since changed my mind and wish I had newborn photos and if I had to go back and choose one because of price, I'd choose newborn. With LO2, I'm for sure doing newborn photos and have no need to do a second maternity shoot. This was the first time we paid for a professional photographer. She was local to is and offered a CD with full rights. Plus after having IF and now that I'm pregnant with twins after IVF, I'm not exactly sure I'll be pregnant again. Also, I struggled with HG for about 24 weeks and really considered not having kids again because I was so miserable but now at 31 weeks, I'm feeling so much better. So having pictures done might help me feel better about having a 3rd child in the future. Photography is expensive in my area, and I gain weight everywhere during pregnancy and generally don't like the way I look--I don't need to pay someone $$$$ for pictures I won't love anyway. This second pregnancy, we just celebrated my mom's 70th birthday and her gift request was a family picture of all of us together. Granted, I only have one photo printed and framed from maternity session, but I'm glad to have them to look back on. DH and step-daughter were included in the photos and we were able to take photos of just her as well, so got more for our money that way. I'm glad I got them done, they turned out great - but I don't miss having them with the other two kids. I regret more not having newborn picture of the first two. Instead we decided to spend more money on newborn shoot and then do a family Christmas shoot a month later (she was an October baby) after I had lost some of the baby weight. I wanted family pictures with her in them not her in my belly, that was my reasoning. I figured they would be in a box not on the wall, and to me that was a waste of money. It was a van all package (15 images). If I had to choose maternity or newborn I would choose newborn for sure. I got a great deal so I have no regrets doing both! They're amazing. If I had more money and was okay with another stranger in the room I would consider it. I feel like a person with a camera might sort of get in the way though. My husband took some of me down by the lake near where we lived and I happy I have those. I also did bump photos and my husband compiled them into a single photos, it is displayed in our family room. Her BIL is our go to photog). Generally, I hate photos of myself, so I can't see displaying them anywhere. And I figure I'll have shower photos if I want something for a baby book. I've taken some weekly selfies, but don't even enjoy the way I look in them. Maybe things will change when my bump is more pronounced?
