I never got sick and always got perfect attendance awards! But I was notorious for my allergic reactions and constantly had hives. It took years for kids to stop asking, "Eww, is that contagious?!"

I had ear aches all the time. Like 3 or 4 a year until I was 8 or 9 and at least 1 a year until I was 16. It sucked and I had to have tubes put in twice. I still am pretty susceptible to upper respiratory infections that go around. Other than that, I wasn't really sick often.

@Reese: Yup. He is almost always sick during the winter. LO gets a sniffle he gets a full blown cold. When we visit my family he is always sick when we get back. I have a niece and 3 nephews. Poor guy! He takes such good care of himself too.

I got sick all the time as a kid. I had terrible allergies and constant sinus infections. I found some old report cards and I missed around 13 days a year. I get sick much less often as an adult.

Does he still get sick often now? Argh. How annoying

Nope but DH was sick ALL the time. And he still is so that whole theory about being a sick child but not a sick adult is moot!

@Reese: hah my DH debunks your theory. They literally had acres and acres of uninhabited land in their backyard. He spent most of his childhood "back there".

Nope. I still rarely get sick. I equate it to growing up and living like a feral child (OK not really - but we had a ton of freedom outdoors). We were exposed to all sorts of craziness.

I didn't get sick often. Even when my siblings and cousin had the chicken pox on three different occasions, I never caught it. So odd. I ended up getting the vax for it as a teen but I wonder if I already had some built up immunity.

I missed half of the days in both first and second grade. I had a rare intestinal disorder that didnt even have a name back then (similar to Hirschbrung's Disease I think). My colon was stretched to the size of an adult's when I was 7 amd it didnt function correctly. I ended up having 3 surgeries in a year, including attaching/reversing a colostomy bag which I wore for 4 months.

I was only 7, but I remember lots of it very well, like being in he hospital, eating only jello for what seemed like forever, getting stuck by needles a million times. I was terrified of doctors and any sort of medical stuff for a long time, but pregnancy forced me to get over most of it. I'm fine now as long as I take medicine everyday. I know I'm blessed because the colostomy was the last resort and it had a 50/50 chance of working. I don't know what would have happened if it failed.

Now that I'm a parent, I can't imagine how mine held it together during that time. It's so scary to think of my baby going through something like that.

That said, I rarely got sick (like normal people sick). I hardly ever had colds, I've never had the flu, etc. I think the universe decided to give me a break!

I was sick *all the time* when I was a kid. DH on the other hand was never sick. DD seems to have his genes. She isn't even quite 2 years old, and she hasn't missed a day of daycare in so long that I can't even remember when her last fever was. I think it was this past summer. She got sick plenty her first year of daycare, but nowhere near as often as all of the other kids. Now she never gets sick (knock on wood). I'm kind of terrified of having a second child who has my genes and gets sick all the time...

I never had any major illnesses, so I didn't miss a ton of school but I would get massive, awful stomach bugs a couple times a year. Once when I was 12 I threw up 18 times in one day. I couldn't even sit up in my bed without throwing up and my mom kept bringing me ice chips because I was dehydrated but then I would throw up clear. And we were traveing so this took place in a hotel. Awesome.

My parents also took us to California to Disneyland once and I got a stomach bug on the first day so we all had to go back to the hotel and my brothers and sisters were so mad at me because we were only there like 1 hour before I started throwing up. Then they got in trouble because my dad let them drive a golf cart at the hotel and my brother wrecked it. LOL

I also got a resistant strain of a staph infection when I was around 7-8. My mom claims it came out of nowhere but I vaguely recall scraping my leg on a rusty nail that was coming out of a bookshelf (I was trying to climb the bookshelf..yup, I was that kid). Anyway, I was in the hospital for that one.

And I got dysentery when I was 15 one summer when I was in Vietnam. I was so sick for so long that then I developed really bad thrush in my mouth. That was horrible.

I think I have a very weak stomach that is susceptible to bacteria.

I rarely got sick. I think I only missed 5 days total in elementary school when I had the chicken pox, but the whole school caught it then -- 3 kids were in class when I returned. My brother on the other hand got sick a lot... super high fevers and rashes all the time, but he eventually outgrew them.

Charlie got an award for perfect attendance! But he is sick today so he is missing his first day. I'm pretty amazed that he hasn't gotten sick until now with the brutal winter we've had and since he's around hundreds of kids daily.
