Yes! It was around Christmas so we brought a box full of cookies for the L&D nurses and another for the Mom & Baby nurses. I'd baked them all in advance and had them frozen in their tins ready to go.

I loved my L&D nurses/doctor so much. They were my support when I was delivering and were so kind and sweet.

I had my husband take them a tray of (bought!) muffins and bagels a few days after we brought my LO home. He had to go by the hospital go get something anyway so I had him leave the tray and a few thank you cards.

@krsmall: do you have an eta on his release date yet?

If I end up being induced, I'll probably take some cookies in with me. I'm not sure how they'll feel about baked goods from strangers but, I have a bunch of frozen cookie dough balls and I have two days off from work next week so, I'll do it as a nice gesture.

We won't be doing a gift. Not to sound like a jerk but they get paid (well!) to do what they do.. I'm grateful (and especially grateful that we have a good insurance plan) but I don't think a gift is necessary, maybe a thank you card if anything.

I made a huge basket of food items for the nurses. It included granola bars, trail mix, fruit chews, dried fruit, crackers, and cookies. So there was a mix of healthy and no so healthy snacks they could easily grab. We had so many thank yous and the nurses really seemed to appreciate it,

I gifted my midwives and the nurse that took care of me the first two days a small lotion/handsoap set from The Body Shop. No calories!

I didn't have the energy to make something homemade, and honestly, I wouldn't eat something from people I don't know, so I would think the delivery staff would probably not eat it anyway. The only food I would give is something premade and prewrapped, with ingredients listed. Otherwise, it's cash in the trash.

We did. I think it's pretty customary here in Japan. We gave a gourmet cookies that came in a wrapped box to the nurses, another box of treats to the doctors/interns, and some chocolates to my own doctor. I've never given so many presents until I moved to Japan.

I wasn't about to worry about it during labor. But I absolutely loved all of our nurses!

At the 1 month pediatrician appointment I brought him by the hospital since it is across the street from my pediatrician. I put a little photo of him and a thank you note on a few containers of brownies from the bakery and dropped them off to l&d, recovery, & nicu.

We stopped by and visited with the nurses so they could see how big and not yellow he had gotten. They all seemed so shocked to get the treats, but they definitely deserved them!

We planned on bringing freshly bakes cookies. Ha! Once I started having contractions, that plan went straight out the window. In fact, DD is now 2 months old, and I still have the ingredients for the cookies sitting in my kitchen cabinet. I did write nice thank you notes to each of my L&D nurses though. They were amazing!

Do nurses appreciate baked goods/sweets, or do you think they'd prefer healthy stuff, flowers, something else?

I brought cookies! Well, I had cookies made and shared them with my nurses, techs and anyone else who came in my hospital room!! My sister in law was my labor and delivery nurse, so I probably had special treatment there, but I was certainly glad I had them for my post partum/mother baby nurses and techs. I'm not sure if they just don't get as much "love" as the L&D nurses, but they seemed very appreciative of the gesture! (and I never had to wait for anything-which is amazing considering the hospital I delivered at births 19,000 babies a year)
