@yoursilverlining: Whoa, that's awesome!! Your cat sounds a lot like mine!! We actually have to exile her to the garage at night (where she has a bed and toys and all that) because she yowls all night, hopefully that will chill out as well. I'll keep my hopes up!! Glad your kitty is getting along so well with the baby! So cute!

@Bookworm: YES, I do!!! My cat is also quite mean and a real B – she is very jealous and territorial and literally attacks people in our home. Like, muckles onto them and bites hard enough to make people bleed. She also used to bite and scratch me hard enough to draw blood on a regular basis (she never attacks DH for some reason). On the flip side, she is very sweet with me and DH and snuggles up with us every single day and sleeps on top of me all night. We were really worried about how she would respond to LO.

Our cat got way calmer as my pregnancy progressed and by the end very rarely would scratch me.

Since LO has been born, our cat has been amazing. She has never once threatened LO – she leaves her alone, or investigates LO gently and slowly. The cat is extremely gentle with LO who now is old enough to grab the cat. The other day LO grabbed the cat’s tail when she walked by, and then grabbed her ear and our cat just backed away and left. No hissing, no attacking.

LO *loves* the cat, and kitty loves LO! Here’s a couple pictures of them:

I'm worried we might have to get rid of our cat when LO comes, but I'm trying to avoid that. She's a very territorial mean as hell cat who doesn't tolerate anyone other than DH and I, and I'm worried she will react poorly to a baby. At the very least I am getting her de-clawed (I know, controversial, but if it means keeping the cat, that's what I have to do). Anyone else have a b**** (and I mean with a huge capital B) of a cat and keep it after baby?

I'm actually really torn about this... I have two huge dogs and both are rescues. One of my dogs is fear aggressive and is always growling at DD. I'm really thinking of getting rid of him, but then my other dog would be so lonely. The dogs are "seniors" so I don't know if anyone will take them, so I'm thinking I'll just tough it out and keep them separated.

No. But I won't lie ithas crossed my mind. It's HARD to take care of a dog and a baby. We boarded my dog when I was in the hospital and of course he caught kennel cough so for the first two weeks of LOs life we had a sick dog to deal with. Not fun. Luckily hubs does most of the doggy duty.

We didn't, but DH would have loved to get rid of one of my cats. It was important to use that our LOs be around animals. When DD was born we had 2 cats and a Newfoundland and have had no problems with any of them. One of our cats passed this year before DS was born and the one remaining hates DH so he is pretty much hidden unless DH is out. Our dog is incredible and lets DD crawl/lay/sit on her.

Nope! DH and I adopted our dog together. We intend to give her the best life possible! We were worried about how she do with our DS, but she took to him as soon as we were home from the hospital. (We have had her about 5 1/2 years) We also have a cat. He is not too sure about the baby but he copes by general avoidance. We rescued our cat from my mom's woodpile when his eyes were just barely open. He is happy and Healthy now.

I couldn't imagine giving them up just because I got married or had a baby. When I adopt/rescue an animal it is for life!

Yes, when we had a baby. It wasn't my decision, but it was causing so many fights between me and DH. I was incredibly sad about it, but I don't know how we would have cared for him during my postpartum period. He's w/a great family (friends of ours) so I'm just glad he's in a good home.

No way! Cats are easy but DH knew I wouldn't give them up for him! And I think it will be great for the baby to be around animals and learn compassion and love for furry beings. I feel like children without pets are missing out!

We have a chihuahua who thinks he runs the place, until he peed on Harper's brand new light pink PBK rug....That pissed me off (PUN!) so bad that he got banished to the downstairs for the rest of his life. We got a baby gate for the bottom of the stairs and he's only allowed upstairs if he's supervised. He used to sleep with us every single night and I've been worried about that with the new baby bc he's loud and sometimes restless. And he even snores! So he's only been sleeping with us about 25% of the time now, because it's like he understands that he's really not supposed to be upstairs. It's a privilege.

I cried my face off scrubbing the pee stain off that rug!

Nope. DH fell in love with my dog, who I actually got from an ex. She is a baby and a princess and we have been talking about all the things we'll need to do to prep her for baby's arrival and the transition. Luckily though she is a super easy and mellow dog.

@mediagirl: Have you tried a belly band (also called male wrap)? My pug pees in the house (it is a dominance thing) and I bought two belly bands that I use in rotation. It works kind of like a diaper and it is a hell of a lot easier to throw one of them in the wash than it is to constantly seek out/clean up pee in the house.

We have two dogs. When I gave birth, they both went to stay with my MIL until we adjusted. The lab came home in like 2 weeks, but she still has the English setter. At this point, we aren't sure if she'll be coming back, unless, of course, my MIL can't keep her. She's deaf and never.stops.barking. It's a pretty common trait for deaf dogs, so not a great thing with a baby. And she loves to run all day, and doesn't get to at our house. So right now she's happier there and we're happier with her there. We haven't fully decided, though. I still take care of her vet visits/ shots/ flea and heart worm meds, though.

Nope! One of my biggest fears was that LO would be allergic to him and we'd have to give him up, but thank goodness she's not. I still have a fear that our next baby will be allergic. I don't want to be without a dog for the next 18 years!

I actually gained my pup when I got married.... he was DH's so he came with the marriage.

Do you ever want to? HAHA.

I left my dog in CA when I got married and moved to GA.

I had gotten him while I was dating my ex and I felt like he'd be happier with my family. More people to love him, someone was always home, etc. If he came with me, he would have been home alone most of the day.

I also wanted the freedom to go out and travel with my husband without having to worry about finding someone to take care of him (didn't have anyone I could trust in GA).

I used to regret it and feel bad, but now that I have a baby, I can't imagine having my dog here too. I'd go crazy.
