I have a master of accounting. Most states require you to have a masters, or at least the equivalent hours it would take to earn a masters, as one of the requirements to be a certified public accountant. I couldn't have gotten my job without my CPA license, so it was definitely worth it. I got a Masters of Education in Gifted and Talented Education. I'm really glad that I did it before I was married and had kids. I couldn't imagine doing that with everything else. I got my BA in Social Work in December, and in August I started grad school. I graduated with a Master of Social Work the following the December. So, 15 months. It was an accelerated program because I had my BASW from an accredited undergrad program. I use it every single day and am so glad I went. Took two years to get an MBA in sustainable real estate development. It was expensive but I've just paid off the crazy loan and am happily employed. I think it's definitely useful in my career, but I'd like to run my own projects. Did a one-year (including summer) M.S. in Exercise and Sport Science (took comprehensive exams instead of doing a thesis) and now in my second year of an educational doctorate (Ed.d.) program in Teaching and Curriculum in Physical Education. The masters opened so many doors for me, it was 1,000% worth it. I haven't really come across something I wanted to study in graduate school. A lot of my friends went on to get their graduate degree mostly because they didn't really know what they wanted to do and stayed in school after undergrad so they could hopefully figure it out. The idea is that you're "working" by producing research. But it's kind of dumb to give someone a fellowship their first year before they even know what/how to do that research, IMO :) I actually was much happier when I taught. MA in Education. many districts now require you to eventually get a master's or do the equivalent of a master's in classes, professional development, etc, so many undergrad program in education roll right into a 5th year master's program. my undergrad program didn't do that, so i just got my master's while teaching. thankfully the program was very working-teacher friendly! :) </p>
